Yes its a shame they did it like this but they're not fixing it. Unfortunately, not unlike my previous device (The HTC Desire) I had to root for better memory management. I was going to root anyway and actually already had rooted before I noticed there was going to be an issue with memory.
Many wont be happy with the answer to root their device, but unfortunately its the best I have. Then using directory bind, [TOOL] DirectoryBind - move data to external_sd (GameLoft, Shadowgun etc.) ROOT req. - xda-developers
to move and bind the data from /sdcard for big games to /extSdCard
