Tranzz, this forum is fine. The elves at CompanionLink have been very busy with some changes and it will impact DROID users a lot!
Our CL USB Sync product is rapidly morphing into a new App which will soon be named "DejaOffice". The concept is to capture all the great features of the past, like a solid implementation of the "classic four"; Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Memos. Add common PC features like Calendar items linked to Contacts, Categories with colors, and decent size notes attached to all record types. Finally, lots of options to sync and back up to PC, Cloud or wherever, to insure if your phone takes a drop your data is secure for when the replacement arrives.
DejaOffice will be standalone. No sync needed. Already we can connect to PC Outlook, Palm Desktop, Lotus Notes, and ACT! using CompanionLink's existing sync systems. By late-April we'll have some system in place to use Google as a datastore for Contacts and Calendar. I'm not sure right now whether we'll trade data onboard with the onboard ActiveSync enabled applications (push), or create an independent gdata connector to poll google or sync-on-demand (can't be push). Or both. There are pros and cons for both approaches.
The use case is for be better integration of PIM features than with the onboard apps, improved functionality, search, sort, CRM, more options to sync/back up your data, and cross platform compatibility so your next phone will run it too.
The current CL USB Sync will likely get one more push before the branding change. "DejaOffice 2010" should appear by mid-late April, and will have some sort of Google wireless at that time. The product will continue to gain features through the spring. Initially it will be free. At some point it will become advertising supported (admob) with a $9.99 in-app purchase option for those who wish to turn the ads off. Overall we hope this offers a full range of free options, paid options, and value-based services for a wide variety of needs, and a profit motive for our team to make it great.
