thank you scotty! I use 4ext recovery as well. I love it! So the phone doesn't have to be s-off to use the PD86IMG.zip method? For some reason I thought you had to be to flash recovery that way. I have been wanting to ask this question for awhile but didn't want to start a whole thread just for that.... Thank you very much for the links!!!

He is not phone savvy. He doesn't want to flash or do anything. I told him about free wireless tether which he uses the tether a lot so he wants it basically just for that...

ext 4 is a very nice touch recovery, and what i personally use on my inspire.

current software build number for the att inspire is 2.47.502.7. htcdev hboot for that is 0.85.0024,and changes your main version to 2.52.0.0.

as you know, htcdev has its limitations, make sure your friend understands that if he wants to flash roms(have him read this: s-on and want to flash roms? READ THIS)

i would pretty strongly to give up on htcdev, and either manually,or using the "AAHK",downgrade and s-off/superCID. that will make the phone much more fun to own and flash.

if you just want to root the stock rom,you can use superuser 3.0.7 or [29.08.2012] SuperSU v0.96 - xda-developers

i personally like superSU but either will root gingerbread just fine
