Default Can't connect to 4G (Los Angeles)

I live about 3-5 miles from downtown LA where 4G coverage is available. When I turn on the 4g antenna, tap to scan for 4G service, it can't find it and has the status "disconnected". Do I have a defective antenna?

no it simply means you are not in 4G coverage.
