Default Advantages to joining my network to my domain?

So, About 2 years ago I bought a domain name mostly for email, but I have a registered domain name. Fast forward to present, I got a server from work (scraped) that I have set up with linux and running on my home network. It's primary purposes are to be a router and a NAS which it already is. However, this thing has 2 quad-core Xeons (E5405) and 8GB of ram, I can't help but feel it's being a tad under-used. It's an IBM x3500.

I only have 2 other PCs besides the server on the network and it's all workgroup based right now. Is there any advantage for me to switch the network over from workgroup to my domain name? What other nifty things can I have this server do?
