Depends on the quality of the knife. I am familiar with several automatic knives. You are talking about a front opening version. The Italian made knives are great, especially the vintage stocks. Sadly, the laws make them illegal. I think some states allow them if they are of a certain length.
Too bad, I would love to buy a fine quality switchblade. Lots of places to get them but they are illegal.
I remember a company that sold switchblade "kits." The parts were for "educational" purposes only; the parts were carefully laid out on a framed display. With warnings telling you it was illegal to assemble them.
