I can carry a phone around and not notice that I am carrying a phone. It sits snuggly in my holster and leaves my hands free. If I had to carry around a tablet, I'd notice the bulkiness of it as I would have to have some type of bulky case or I would have to dedicate at least one hand to hold it. I'd rather have one device that does pretty much what both a flip phone and tablet can do for the most part. The only thing my tablet has that my smartphone doesn't is a physical keyboard to make typing easier and a larger screen which in most cases isn't a big necessity when you want to be mobile.
