Go ahead and root, it's not illegal but will voidd your warranty. At this point warranty really doesn't mean anything because the phone is well out of the support stage. Basically, once rooted, use ROM Manager to flash an alternate recovery. Install/flash AmonRa 306 while in Rom Manager recovery, then install the velocity ROM from AmonRa recovery, version 1.2, update 18. Best and most versatile ROM for the Ally. The Ally is a great little phone, albeit a bit limited by its memory. If you need files or other assistance, PM me and I will do what I can to help.
