Settings » WIRELESS & NETWORKS » Uncheck NFC. It was enabled by default after my 4.2.1 update. I believe it enables your device to transfer data with a bump against another. Useless to me on my Nexus 7 tablet and with it unchecked wifi works, even with poor signal.
