I don't know: the cars wouldn't have managed many miles if they tested in NYC - traffic was a nightmare last time I was there. Crawling foward 6 inches every 5 minutes isn't that much of a challange

Personally, I think the story has the issue arse-about-face: I think resistance to automated cars will be really high because people prefer to drive themselves. Even though computers already do a better job 90% of the time (yeah, that 10% is kind of a deal breaker), I just don't see drivers willingly turning over the wheel to a machine.
