Just bought an Motorola Droid today - very sadly leaving Palm after 13 yrs from Palm Pilot Professional to Treo (981 memos, 2675 contacts, thankfully almost no Calendar or Tasks). Thanks to all for the many tips. I would actually have waited to test some of these solutions, esp. for the memos but the Verizon guy gave me $50 off to buy today along with MiFi wireless purchase. Enough history...

My problems are a little different. My loyalty to Palm was due mostly to the Desktop on PC, not the devices (altho I am learning that I probably took way too much for granted in terms of PDA/PIM capabilities like Contacts, Search etc.) As I migrate, I really do not want everything to be stored out in some Google cloud. As much as possible, I would prefer to be synching or copying to my PC and accessible there and on the phone whether I am online or not.
Is that how NoteEverything works?
Ditto on the contacts - I really want to synch to my own PC if possible.
It isn't clear to me which if any of the apps discussed do that.
Finally, the calendar posts all talk about 2x4 3x4 4x4. What does that mean?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
