You can always try to return to the default messaging app by going into settings/apps/ locating the at&t messaging app and clearing the defaults. This will revert messaging to ask you if you want to use stock messaging or the at&t app (if they allow it) I am on Sprint so I cannot be for certain, but it's worth a try.
