I wouldn't get too excited about Wal-Mart getting involved, at least not yet. The last time I saw any rumors about it was back in January. I've been watching carefully for that story to materialize, but there's been nothing since. That doesn't mean it won't happen. If you think about it, some of the major cable companies, including Comcast, Bright House Networks and Time Warner are partners in the WiMAX initiative, but none of them have started their build-out either. At least not that I know of. It wouldn't surprise me, though to see all or some of these companies getting involved very soon. When they do, all of us have a good chance of having 4G, including a lot of rural areas that are still stuck with dial-up.
