I'm a seasoned Jailbreaker when it comes to Iphones...and I've rooted my wife's Nook HD the other week and installed the CM 10.1 ROM by following a tutorial. However, I am still feeling very green with the entire Android Rooting world.

I have some questions that I couldnt find answers to in various forums and was hoping if someone knew off top of their heads.

1) Once I have rooted the HTC One, how would I update to Android 4.2.2 once that is released? I would like to keep the stock Sense ROM, but just want to gain Super User so that I can flash a custom kernel to convert the HTC logo into a capacitive button.
once you are rooted and have started modding the stock rom,and/or running custom roms/kernels you cannot update via OTA. rom devs will cook updates into recovery flashable stock, and custom roms, and extract firmware,so the best way to root is as follows,if you remain s-on:
1)back up apps and app data with titanium backup or similar app
2)force sync with google to update calander, contacts, etc
3)backup sms and call logs if you care about those(i never do)
4)make a nandroid in recovery
5)flash update rom
6)boot to bootloader,and relock
7)flash updated,signed firmware package
8)re-unlock bootloader
9)re-install recovery
10)download titanium backup and restore apps
11)reset up phone

if you chose to become s off,its considerably easier:
1)back up apps and app data with titanium backup or similar app
2)force sync with google to update calander, contacts, etc
3)backup sms and call logs if you care about those(i never do)
4)make a nandroid in recovery
5)flash update rom
6)boot to bootloader
7)flash updated,custom firmware package
8)download titanium backup and restore apps
9)reset up phone

if you stay s on,you cannot get rid of the relocked watermark in your bootloader. its like a telltale beatig heart, letting everyone who looks know that youve unlocked at some point.

if you s off,100% stock is possible: [how to]return to 100% stock from revone or moonshine s off

nope,no cydia for android. the tweeks you add are dependent on how you want your device to be different. ios is closed source and thres not much you can mod. there are no custom roms, and the hardware is all the same,so you can get away with something like cydia.

android is completely different. the core OS is open source and there are many levels of hardware to suit folks different needs.

as such, mods and info are varied and not packaged up in a central location, you will have to go searching for what you want to do with your particular device. sorry if it seems "inefficient"

hope that helps. holler if you have further questions
