I tested this last night ..before going to bed I charged the phone to 100% and unplugged it. got up this morning and checked it .. 98% plugged it in and within 5 min it was back to 100%.

I don't really do anything special to save battery but I did disable Google Now in the apps settings a few days ago.
If your not using Google now it's simple to disable it.
Just go to settings/apps/All/Google Search/ and click Force Stop then Disable
