I don't really do anything special to save battery but I did disable Google Now in the apps settings a few days ago.
If your not using Google now it's simple to disable it.
Just go to settings/apps/All/Google Search/ and click Force Stop then Disable
Google now is years beyond Siri for Apple. That's why I haven't disabled it. Please back me up guys but I have disabled Google+, Google Play Music, Facebook, News & Weather, Sprint Discover Apps, Sprint Icon Apps, Talk, Dropbox, and Kid Mode. I don't think any of these should mess up my phone. I wonder if I will need to enable these before the 4.2.2 update? I more than likely will and just disable them again after the update.
Yes, EarlyMon is right about Gsam and Wakelock having the same functions.
If you were getting a 10-15% drop and it went away over night that is strange. I don't even show Google Now waking up.
