I was sick of not getting an update, so I finally moved to Android 1.6. I even made a small step by step guide as I saw that some people didn't know how to update their I7500L. Please note that you should sync your contacts/calendar before following this procedure.

HOW TO UPDATE A GALAXY I7500L

First of all, I’m going to give you the link the the original Android 1.5 BMIK6 firmware, the one I had on my Galaxy I7500L I bought with Bell in Canada:
Megaupload
It's called BMIK7, but in fact it's BMIK6. I flashed all of it, including the cache.img and the amss and it's the exact same thing that came with my phone when I bought it.

You’ll need a few things before you can do the actual updating:

-The new firmware (I wanted Android 1.6, so I used JC6, get it there: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting)

-Jzip (You are going to use this to remove some parts of the firmware, using Winrar or Winzip probably won’t work correctly. Get it there: http://download.jzip.com/jZipV1.exe)

-Odin Multi Downloader (The software you’re going to use to install the firmware to your phone, get it there:
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting, you don’t have to install this software)

-Orion.ops (It should be included with the Odin download above)
When you have downloaded everything, I suggest you place everything on your desktop; it’ll be easier like that. The procedure is quite simple, but you probably are a little unsure of what you’re doing.

The actual updating:

Start by opening Jzip. Select Open archive at the top, and then find the firmware you downloaded. (Mine was I7500_XEJC6_XEJC6_SERJC6_Russia_SER.7z). Once it’s done, simply press extract, and select the place you want (the desktop is nice).
That’s it for Jzip. You’re going to need to boot your phone in download mode. Start by turning it off (hold the end call button and select turn off). When it’s off, press and hold Volume Down, Ok, and End Call, as you see on this picture:

Ok, now you should see something special on your phone, you’ll know if it worked. It’s time to plug it on your computer (I didn’t have to install any drivers, it worked on my first try, although I do have New Samsung PC Studio 1.4.2 installed on my Windows 7 32bit computer, AKA the one I used).
Open up Odin. You should see the first square (upper left) being different than the others if your phone is recognized. Mine was, so yours should be. Now is the tricky part (it’s really easy in fact). You need to click the “OPS” button right under “Select Ops” pretty much in the middle of the screen. It’s at the top of the column of buttons you’ll have to click. You’ll have to select Orion.ops, it’s supposed to be where Odin is.

Alright, now you have to click “BOOT” and select the “BOOTLOADER.tar” file from the firmware you downloaded. Mine was “I7500XEJC6-BOOTLOADER-CL209906.tar”

Now, you skip the Phone part, it only contains the file that would have rendered your phone incapable of connecting to your provider. SO DO NOT PUT ANYTHING THERE, DON’T EVEN CLICK “PHONE”. That’s right, you’ll only be using 3 of the 4 “xxxx.tar” files.

Click on “PDA” and select the “PDA.tar” file, mine was I7500XEJC6-PDA-CL209906.tar

Click on “CSC” and select the “CSC.tar” file, mine was I7500SERJC6-CSC-CL209906-SER.tar

You should scroll down a little and check the picture if you’ve done it right, but I see no reason why not.

Don’t put anything in “ONE PACKAGE” either.

Here’s a printscreen I took during the process:

If everything is like that, you’re ready to go, press “Start” (it is grayed out in the picture because I had already clicked)

Now a lot of stuff is going to happen, just wait. You can see the progress in green in Odin. When it’s over, you’ll see that your phone will reboot and initialize. Odin will write "PASS" on a blue background.

You might also notice that it’s going to be different, and the language might be too. Mine was in Russian I think. On the homescreen of your phone, go into the settings. Select the ninth option, or the fifth from the bottom. Then select the first choice and you’ll see a list of languages. Chose yours (mine’s French). It’s not over yet, you have to do a factory reset for it to work correctly. So go into settings again and select the seventh option (SD card and Memory). Scroll down and select the last one. Proceed. Your phone will now be good to go.

THE END, THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER

In short: You download everything, extract the 4 folders from the firmware you downloaded, you boot your phone in download mode, you plug it it, then in Odin you select the OPS (orion.ops), the BOOT (should look like BOOTLOADER.tar), NO PHONE, the PDA (something like PDA.tar) and the CSC (looks like CSC.tar). Then you press start, you wait for a while, your phone will be updating. When everything’s done, you’ll have to change the language, and factory reset your phone.

If you are on Bell Mobility: to get your Data connection to work again, you have to go into settings, wireless, mobile settings, APN, and then you have to create a new APN called Bell with these settings:

Name: Bell Internet
APN: pda.bell.ca
Proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: web.wireless.bell.ca
MMS port: 80
MCC: 302
MNC: 610
APN type: Internet + mms
Authentication Type: none

A big thanks to everyone on this forum who helped me update my phone, I merely wrote a small text to help others too, especially informale because he answered my questions when I was a total noob.
