First of all, it only works at all if the phone is absolutely level. Even a small variation makes the needle move a lot. In addition, if I rotate my phone slowly, the needle doesn't stay pointing to N.

I would say mine points closer to N than to S but is so hopelessly inaccurate (often more than 90 degrees out) that it would actually be dangerous to use it for navigation.
Actually, just meant the s-cover. I haven't any need for a compass, but installed one out of curiosity - yes... it's bollixed up.
