You were extraordinarily lucky since this was completely your fault but good job on getting a new phone. It's just as well the guy in the shop didn't have a clue what he was talking about .

Rooting and flashing new ROMs isn't really all that hard but you do have to be very careful that you understand what you are doing and that you are flashing exactly the correct files. Otherwise you can mess up your phone good and proper.

As ironass is fond of saying "flash in haste, repent at leisure".
