I would.
I don't really understand the hate for Samsung. It's such a big corporation, you won't deal with the same people at all if you buy a cellphone or a television from them, their support might be better in other areas.
I like my Galaxy. It had BMIK6 out of the box, battery life was good, and all my friends were astonished by all the apps and functions, such as the gps which is working great.
What I didn't like, however, was the lack of 3D support, lack of WPA2 in stock firmware, low RAM, and the fact that I bought Android because I thought it would be updated as time went on. I knew about the RAM before buying, but that's it.
And whilst 2.1 looks great, well, it's not such an important update, for me anyway. I was pretty disappointed when I saw that I still couldn't get my wifi to work correctly at school. (At least with 1.6 I can see the network...)
