I've contacted shopsavvy about this.
They will put a new version out very soon to help with this problem. For now the fix is two fold:
1. Step back a bit from the barcode.
2. Make sure there is very good light to capture the barcode.
I emailed them yesterday, and got a reply in like 15 mins
But ultimately they said to look for a new version soon!
