Default [How to] ROOT & CWM for Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 JB 4.1.2 (Easy Root)

Here is the easy way to Root the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

This Root method was successfully tested on the:

GT-I8160 Jelly Bean 4.1.2
GT-I8160L Jelly Bean 4.1.2
GT-I8160P Jelly Bean 4.1.2

Download link:
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

No need to use Odin.
No kernel changing required.
Does not increase flash counter.

Instructions:

1. Download the zip file and place it in your external sd card.
2. Reboot your phone in recovery mode. (Volume Up + Power + Home Button)
3. Select install update from external storage.
4. Select the root.zip file.
5. Job done.

Your phone should be rooted by now.

(The SuperSu app has an option to unroot the phone if you need to do so).

Remember that you can disguise the root to use Kies update if you install:
"Triangle Away".

If you want OTA updates with a rooted device? Than I suggest you to search and download "Xposed Framework" and search for this rare module called "Xposed SysScope Blaster".

Works sweet.

I have also included CWM.

Download link:
Samsung Galaxy Ace 2

This is only a temporary clockwork mode.
(You install this in the same way you install the root file).

Instructions:

1. Download the zip file and place it in your external sd card.
2. Reboot your phone in recovery mode. (Volume Up + Power + Home Button)
3. Select install update from external storage.
4. Select the CWM.zip file.
5. Job done.

Link2Sd instructions:

EXTRA INFORMATION:

If you want your device modified and personalised ?
Remember you don't need to flash custom Roms for that!!!
Take a look at this thread, learn and have fun:

http://repo.xposed.info

Xposed Framework:

Xposed Modules:

Disclaimer:
Rooting your phone can brick your phone.
You will void your Warranty.
Unless you know how to fix that...
Do it at your own risk and responsibility.
If you use this process and something goes wrong, just flash your firmware again using Odin and it will fix it.
But I decline any responsibility for any malfunction.

If you have any questions?
Just ask and do a research before you do anything.

If you are not confident or comfortable about what you are doing ?!
I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO DO IT !!!

If you download and use this method on your phone ?
At least consider to leave me a or a comment (...).

Thanks for that.

I just want to add a note that you can still use Kies with full functionality (including firmware update check) without using the "Triangle Away" app.

In fact, when I checked that app it seems it's to do with custom ROM flashing and not rooting.

yes you got root.
Now you can use all the apps that require root access.
(Root access allows you to explore the real potential of your phone.)

Don't worry about the CWM as it is only temporary and only useful for little things for advanced users.

I should warn you though (and I'm sure Smokey would agree) that if you're new to rooting, Android and don't consider yourself an experienced tech person to be very careful with root access. Only grant access to apps you know and trust. If you don't know what the access request is from, be safe and deny.

Although if you're smart and safe nothing can harm your device unless you grant it permission first.
Sorry if you already knew this. Very sleep deprived atm.

Hi,
This is only a temporary CWM,
You mount the zip file and your phone run the script.
But once you finish using it closes the script and leaves no trace behind...
Meaning that you need to boot your phone in recovery mode and install the zip from the sd card every time you need to use it.

I don't know anything about the permanent mode.
If you going to try it?
Just verify first if is compatible with this device model.
I hardly use CWM on my phone.
It can be a dangerous process.
So be careful.

I have a GT-I1860L, is it the same procedure? What benefits will I get apart from being able to remove the pre-installed app I don't want?

If you have to ask then rooting is not for you just yet.

Think of rooting your phone as logging into your windows system as full admin. If you don't know what you're doing or why you're doing it you can seriously mess up your system. Those preinstalled apps won't affect the phone's performance if you don't use them and it's not a must-do to remove bloatware.

If you don't consider yourself a tech savvy person I wouldn't even bother. If you ARE then I suggest doing a TON of research until you full understand the benefits/disadvantages of root. I must say, many of them are actually oversung and only reason I rooted my phone was to perform some necessary system tweaks as the uk Jelly Bean firmware sucks.

Also, if your mode isn't an I8160 do NOT follow this method as it is not tested and not guaranteed to work. Nobody but you can be held responsible if something goes wrong.

Good Morning,
I want to remove bloatware, add apps that need root access maybe alter some settings in android to make it simpler faster.

bought ace2 gingerbread Had shop unlock it, used odin to instal cwm and found superuser on and cwm on, then added programs and removed some apps. phone fine.

months later samsung site had ics 4.1 so ran it with keis, but fone lost root access. Worked fine

THEN.. found root and cwm on google fo android 4.1 for odin, ran root, .. fone wouldnt start, but pwer//vol/start/ menu still available.
went back to shop who managed to get it going, but have loaded an unrooted android with some italian aps as desporto, on "about" shows gt18160 android 4.1.2.
...
Your system seems sooo much simpler than odin, may I know if it only works with standard 4.1, or any 4.1 rom as this, would this one be a custom rom maybe the italian job?, how would I know?, is it as good as standard samsung 4.1 or is it souped up 2.1? .....or should I try load samsung 4.1 then use your method? would appreciate your cooments thank you.

Rooting does not mean installing a custom ROM like you seem to think.
I assume English is not your native tongue as the answers to your questions are in the opening post.

This is a method for rooting Jelly Bean. Android 4.1 is jelly Bean, not ics like you seemed to think. Follow instructions in the opening post to the letter. If you're still unsure then don't root as you'll just do more harm than good.

Hi gwm121,

This root method is for the GT-I8160 Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and is based on the "Universal Root Script".
It should also work fine on the "P"&"L" versions of the phone.

Even if you had a Custom Rom in your phone, that custom Rom would be based on some stock firmware.

So yes it is safe for you to use this root for as long you have Jelly Bean 4.1.2

How do you find that?
-First select "settings",
than select "About device",
and read the
*Model number:
*Android version:
*Baseband version:
*Kernel version:
*Build number:

Because you mentioned (desporto)
I think the shop flashed the Portuguese TMN XXMC8 in your phone...
That firmware is old and is not very good. You can always flash some newer and better jelly bean firmware, or the original Jelly Bean firmware for your country.
So is entirely up to you what to do next...

If you need instructions on how to flash firmware? Follow the link:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-ace-2/711657-samsung-galaxy-ace-2-gt-i8160-guide-flash-firmware.html#post5750102

Hi . I updated from ginger bread to version 4.1.2 and then rooted the phone. It appears to have worked as I now have the Supersu app. I don't have mobile browsing on my phone and only ever connect to the internet via wifi at home. Problem is since I rooted the phone I cannot connect to the home wifi despite the phone reporting it as connected.

any one have any suggestions?

Hi saintdarth,
I don't think root is for you.
Root is for advanced users only.

Did you tried to connect your phone to the WiFi router after you updated to JB ?

You wrote that you rooted your phone and: "...It appears to have worked as I now have the Supersu app)..."
That is not how you check if you have root. You shouldn't root your device if you don't know how to use it. You can download the SuperSu app from the play store. But that alone will not give you root access.
Are you shore Root is for you?

No I'm not going to ask you the why you don't have mobile browsing in your phone...

You wrote:
"Problem is since I rooted the phone I cannot connect to the home wifi despite the phone reporting it as connected."

I must say that is the first time I ever read such thing.
*Have you tried to troubleshoot the connection?
*Do you know how to troubleshoot the connection?
*And no root is not the cause of your problems.

Are you shore Root is for you?

Looks like it is not

No I'm not going to ask you the why you don't have mobile browsing in your phone...

Work Sim card, my phone

You wrote:
"Problem is since I rooted the phone I cannot connect to the home wifi despite the phone reporting it as connected."

I must say that is the first time I ever read such thing.

*Have you tried to troubleshoot the connection?

Tried everything I know of

*Do you know how to troubleshoot the connection?

Thought I did

*And no root is not the cause of your problems.
Hope so

In your phone select "settings",
Than select "Wi-Fi",
And select "add Wi-Fi network".
Or scan for the network from your router.

In your router follow the troubleshooting instructions in the manual. Try connect other device to the router. Or just power off and unplug the router for 30 seconds and try the connection again.

ME1? Are you sure that's for the i8160 model and not one of the variants? It will probably still work but you wanna be cautious.

So it isn't the i8160 model. It's the i8160p. The NFC model I believe which has different firmware. Should still work but I don't have an NFC model myself so I'm not certain.

Hi henkelus,
The only difference between your device the (GT-I8160P) and the basic (GT-I8160) is only the (NFC).
So I think you shouldn't have any problem using this root method.
I didn't posted the (ME1) firmware on the topic only because I didn't received any feedback from any user so far. And also I have no way to test it myself.

The third option in recovery mode should say:
"Install update from external storage".
If not ? Than there is something wrong with your phone...

Do you have a external sd card in your phone ???

the external sd card is a little memory card that you insert in the slot labeled (micro sd).

There is no point in attempting to root your device if you already having trouble to understand something meaningful as checking for the existence of a external sd card in your device.
...you will only end up doing more harm than good to your phone.

Good luck.

When I try to reboot using volume up+home+power after holding them down it just resets and doesn't give me any options, goes back to normal. Also Its a new Ace 2 and it displays GTS7560M while it is restarting so is it a different model? There are some back up and factory setting reset options under setting but I don't think that will help. Not sure how to proceed.

Hi 00Dusty,
Don't use this root on your phone.
The script was modified to suit the GT-I8160 only.
If you attempt to do it, you will very likely end up bricking your device.
Try searching on Google for: "" GT-S7560M root instructions"".

Good luck

By far the easiest root I've ever done, and I've rooted an old Sony Ericson using z4root, thank you very much
