Upgrade if phone is rooted

Pardon me for posting this question.I checked other phones but I'm not sure if it is applicable to galaxy ace.. I rooted my samsung galaxy ace. If android 2.3 is released for ace, am I able to upgrade the firmware.. Must I un-root my phone? Help is much appreciated. Thank you.
