Moderator Note:There are now two guides for this forum. A specific guide for the Galaxy Ace 2.3.3 and the Universal root guide for many Samsung devices (including the Ace) in the second post. Seeing how both of these are similar, we're going to keep them in the same thread. Thanks for understanding!
1. Download attached file and copy it to your sdcard
2. Run in maintenance mode (power + middle button)
3. Update from sdcard, select the file upd_1.zip.
4. After the update completed - reboot in normal mode.
Thats all - now you have rooted ace with android 2.3.3, and superuser in your apps.
The thread expand in a very big size and can't be posted here but I made a PDF file so you can download it from here or you can visit me on the next link. NEW UPDATE ON: stoneboytony.blogspot.com

Hi, for those who had installed Gingerbread on your Galaxy Ace:
Is the new firmware using Touchwiz 4.0, just like Galaxy S 2?
How about sleep of death and wifi error problems? Have these been resolved in the new firmware?

can you detail the version? this is rooting dude it won't changes any kernel or rom version. just check for "superuser" app in drawer. if available then you've successfully rooted your device.

Is this really as simple as the instructions in the first post? I badly need my phone rooting as i'm running out of internal but all the other methods I've read on here seem a bit of a chew on.
hi all, iv tried this on my ace but i dont think it works...it still says 2.2.1 but i do now have superuser app installed. anyone have any ideas what went wrong?

People! This is NOT an update for gingerbread, this is just to root your phone... Rooting gives you more access to your phone it does not upgrade your phone to GB.. if you want to upgrade to GB there are lot of threads on how to do that..

hello, after i rooted my android 2.3.4
whenever im connecting my phone to pc. random phone apps are opening, like keypad, contacts menu and message. how to fix this ?
1. Download attached file and copy it to your sdcard
2. Run in maintenance mode (power + middle button)
3. Update from sdcard, select the file upd_1.zip.
4. After the update completed - reboot in normal mode.

I have 2 questions
1. Is it works for 2.2.1
2. Only Rooting a phone wipes all data(apps, docs, memos, contacts etc) ?
why i can't root....!?!??!
after enter "apply update from sdcard"
there are no files for me to choose, and the yellow words said " E: failed to mount/ sdcard (no such file or directory).....who can help me...?
I've been using my s5830 for four days now after flashing it from Froyo to Gingerbread 2.3.4
Do anyone experience about 1.5 sec response before the unlock screen appears?
And also, I experience setting the phone in Vibrate / Silent, but when I receive an SMS message, the message alert tone goes off and the phone is not on silent mode anymore.
Is there any fix for this? Or do I just have my setting wrong?
Note:
I rooted my phone and set an mp3 file as message alert tone

I just got my new Galaxy Ace which came directly with Andoird 2.3.3.
I can say it is one of the most disappointing products that I purchased.
The phone looks great and I was glad that it had already 2.3.3 on it as specs said 2.2. It moves nice and also good interface both hard and software.
BUT I COULD NOT USE THE PHONE FOR MORE THEN 2-3 MINUTES CONTINOUSLY.
It resets and blocks and hangs when using the most basic and simple operations. When put to charge I can it shuts down after a while and I can started only after removing and puting back the battery.
I'm rather now in opinion that quality assurance of Samsung is null. I had last year again a new phone from Samsung and it came with the camera not working from factory.
Can anyone confirm similar problems with Galaxy Ace?

No - your ace is F***ED take it back and get it changed for a non-broken one. All phone makers have problems. I know countless people that have had dodgy HTC,Iphones etc.
Of course I returned the phone. I bought it online so it will take some time until it is solved. My fear was that this can be a sofware issue. If it is then the entire stock from the vendor it may be the same.
i have rooted successfully. I can see superuser app. but there is no change in version. its showing 2.2.1 not 2.3.x. please frnds let me know what went wrong..

You just rooted your device ... you didn't update your Rom
there are two different things !
