Default Mini icons

Got this tablet the other day and noticed on the top left corner of my homepage, there is a string of 8 or so mini icons, twitter, facebook and I think a whack of Youtube..could someone please tell me what they signify and how to get rid of them..if I click on the string of icons I get the date etc..
