AFAIK, I think the only way is to root and install DSPManager

i cant find any apps named dspmanager but i did find louder volume hack and it costs 4$ but lists the acer a1 as a incompatible phone is this the app ur refering to?

I found my speaker volume to be very low, until i updated to 2.2, then my problem was fixed and the speaker worked great. If you have not updated I encourage you to do so.
