Thumbs down Attempted One-Click Root for Original Admire

I went ahead and attempted to root using the 2.3.6 One-Click root method that's being used on the 3g first edition Admire.

I installed the Samsung Admire 4G drivers available from Samsung's support website and the root script seemed moderately happy with it and attempted the root but:

It does not work I'm sorry to say. It doesn't damage anything nor brick the phone pretty much doesn't do anything at all besides install Superuser.apk. You do not get root privileges.

This would lead me to believe that a modification to that script would possibly be the solution but I suppose we'll have to wait until someone with the talent can make those changes.

You can try the attain root method for 2.3.6 and see if that works... if it doesn't you can try the s2 method. Hopefully it works... wish I could try this but my wife wont let me touch it...

That would've screwed something up bad. Lol. Ask pg about his root he has for the original 2.3.6 admire. May actually work.

the one where you flash CWM and root by installing a zip? i would highly suggest against flashing the admire's cwm despite the fact they share a name these phones are nothing alike...

What about a update.zip? Or couldn't we just push root with adb?

ive got a few ideas. i dont own teh device and i have no plans on devving for it, just dont want people breaking their devices over stuff i know wont work. if everyone wanted to run superoneclick or a zillion other scripts thats fine but using odin to flash, if it goes south youve got no restore to fix it.

I tried super one click, moto fail, unlock one click root, gingerbreak, z4, and it all fails does not do anything not even install super user.

OK...well I've heard of a no root boot animation changer so in theory we could modify it to unpack su into the system folder right?

so if we decompile a no root boot animation changer apk and swap the boot animation with the super user apk and edit the extract script with the location of system/app instead of system/media or etc or whereever its trying to extract the bootani to then it should work?

that wont work at all. i was quoting a different post. without root you cant write to system, without the su binary being on system you cant have root that stays.

Yes, using the One-Click Samsung Admire Root (first gen) the Superuser.apk installed but that's easy for the script to do. Superuser did not have root access so it didn't matter.

Will test your device against a bunch of methods. I'd be surprised if it found one that works

I'll continue to try all the exploits that could potentially work I'm much less willing to overwrite the current working rom, however, would like to avoid bricking this thing.

Is there information anywhere on how some of these exploits work? I could start attempting modifications to them adapted to this phone's particular setup.

Thanks

Yes? That's what this thread is about. What about what exploits you attempted, how did they fail? Thanks for your contribution.

I have used superoneclick 2.3.3 and it freezes on 7 and says waiting for device, and then freezes so i have to shut it down.
Nothing works, i tried everything i could find.
Does anybody have a root program that works?
I dont like locked cellphones, thats why i rooted my other samsung admige 3g from metro pcs.
Now i just bought this new white samsung galaxy admire 4g, and i can't root it even with my old program that i rooted my samsung adimire 3g with.
This sucks!

ATM there's no root exploits founded to work with this device... you can either wait or try other methods of rooting (very risky, you might turn it into paperweight)

Hey look, Shabby's here. He was correct in saying that the old Admire root is useless for that device and doubly useless here.

Guess if I'm here, the Squad is in some fashion. Is the bootloader locked on this device?

no its not, im kind of confused about what cpu this phone has as all i can ever find is 1ghz. but either way if i had to guess id say a single core msm8655 (same as the galaxy rush/reverb). the best shot these guys might have with root is via cwm like i did with the reverb

The actual model of the unit is SCH-R820 Using that I searched for a data sheet or at least some detailed tech specs but the information was scarce.

Cortex A8 @1GHz

...and that's pretty much it

Yea the A8 is in a LOT of things. I would be willing to do a teardown of my phone and take pictures of the chips/board layout after work today. Don't know if any of that is even helpful as it's a software obstacle here

PS I'm a hardware guy, working in robotics automation so my software skill is limited.
