Did you download the samsung admire usb drivers for your computer? Does your computer's usb port recognize other devices? Are you using the usb cable that came with your phone or a different cable? ... all cables are not created equal - use the one that came with your phone.

I ended up buying a data cable so all is well now, my main reason for trading my optimus for the admire was the understanding that the admire came out the box with flash support which I was apparently wrong, is there a written tutorial for installing flash because I can't access YouTube at the moment, I tried the modded version from xda since it worked well on my optimus but the admire doesn't seem to recognize it as installed
Wanted to share my rooting experience which caused me a few grey hairs but was finally successful. Following the directions to the T, I was getting the segmentation fault, the unknown host, and the core dump messages. Eventually I wound up with what I thought was a brick; stuck on the Samsung splash screen and just buzzing away. Rebooting, popping the battery, nothing would fix it. After desperately searching for a solution, I found the factory reset sequence. Not sure why it hasn't been mentioned here, but if you depress the down vol, back and power button, the phone boots into a factory reset mode. After resetting and cleaning up in there, my phone knew it was a phone again and was able to boot. Can't promise it will work for everyone, but it worked for me. Next was trying to get the one click to work. Considering the nature of these mods, minimal error handling/reporting and port control, I disabled ALL ports on my laptop, with the exception of the USB port the phone was connected to. By ALL ports, I mean serial (COM), parallel (LPT), infrared, popped the DVD drive out, and even disabled the NICs, wired and wireless. With just the USB port enabled, everything worked exactly the way it was supposed to resulting in a rooted Samsung Admire.

it seems that it was refusing to install superuser saying it couldn't find it.
after scratching my beard for a few, it seems that the package is uploaded but never installed.
i had to comment out the last reboot in the script and then just push the app to /data/app/.
Man, i still don't understand any of these technical words and i do want to root my phone. stuff like these,"What is the file path to the Hello, Hello, HELLO sound byte?","put files on my sd then run them through file manager?"
I hope someone is still following this thread along, and I get the feeling I won't be the last to have this problem rooting.
I'm pretty decent at rooting (thanks to the help of so many on these boards ), so after rooting an optimus m, titanium backup, and root explorer are on this samsung admire, I've installed superuser on the phone from the sd - keep in mind I'm through osx, but at this point, that shouldn't matter, I think.
I've run the admire_root.sh , the phone reads 'script has been executed'. and I reset/restart (not 'reset/factory reset'), and ... titanium backup is telling me that there has been no root.
so, I'm at a loss. optimus m allows to longpress for a 'permissions' option, and I've tried terminal to change the permissions on my osx before loading that newly-permissions-changed 'admire_root.sh' file and running it on the admire through the sd.
so... what's going on here? any help is always appreciated
I get an unknown host error.
Any ideas.
Running windows one click root
I installed Samsung drivers.
Downloaded and unpacked admire root
Ran the run file.
Then I get the error.
Yes, the phone is in debug mode.
Thanks for any help guys!

anyone care to make a rom with all the bloatware removed. i just quit a project with the vitality to admire, but would still love to do it.... i of course will post full directions as i love to share the knowledge
Every time I try I get this, the last step is preventing me from finishing this.

ok mine said this too and i have superuser and titanium backup well for one i think i need to delete bloatware and i dont know what to dlete and why???? also for some reason my wifi wont work even tho it says its connceted to a network secure or nonsecure what is up? and how do i do all the cool stuff i see in videos of rooted phones???????????????????????
I downloaded the drivers on my Windows desktop, then downloaded the "One Click" file. Extracted all files, ran run.bat and let it do it's thing. Ran into a couple errors, but I read EVERYTHING in this thread, and did everything i could that was related to me.
Uploaded Superuser.apk to my webserver via ftp since I couldn't figure out how to transfer it to my sdcard. Then I pointed my web browser on the phone to the uploaded apk. Downloaded it onto my phone and installed it. It installed successfully.
Then I went to the Market and downloaded the paid version of Titanium backup. It installed successfully as well. Titanium Backup shows I have root access (if I am reading it right).
Superuser shows that Titanium Backup has Superuser priviledges. So I assume this means my phone is rooted.
Am I correct in assuming I rooted it successfully?
My next question is this:
What do I do now?? I realize there are lots of benefits to rooting your phone, but my most immediate need is to run a Screenshot app that requires root access. Even after successfully rooting (i think) my phone, when I open the app, it still tells me my phone needs to be rooted. I tried uninstalling the app, and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Is there somewhere where I have to "give superuser priviledges" to each individual app??? If so, where is it??? Do I need the files on my desktop anymore, or was that just to install the run.bat on my phone.
My next plan of attack will be to remove all of the BS that comes on the phone. I have seen several people ask what is safe to remove, but I have seen no answer. Also, how do I remove it? Is it done on the phone, or on the desktop connected to the phone??? Is there some other program or app that manages everything?
Last but not least (for now) is the splashscreen and the "Hello, Hello, Hello". I have seen people ask how to remove this, and I have seen some replies that say go to /this file/that file, etc.... Where do I go to edit files? Is it on my phone, or on my desktop??? And what exactly do I edit to change the splashscreen and the "Hello, Hello, Hello"

SOUNDS LIKE A YES!

NO USE FOR THEM ON YOUR PC TYPICALLY YOU WOULD CONNECT YOUR PHONE VIA USB, ENTER DEBUGGING MODE, AND XFER THE FILES OVER TO YOUR /SDCARD FOLDER THEN ACCESS THEM FROM YOUR PHONE USING ROOT EXPLORER AND COPY / INSTALL THEM TO THE PHONE

What windows are you using? Vista, XP, 7 ?
If your computer is not reconizing your phone being plugged up via usb cable then thats a PC / Windows issue you have which could be a number of reasons causing it .. when you attach the cable to your phone you computer should make a sound letting you know it detects a "device" is connected .. if its not giving you that indicator then a "restore" to a previous date could resolve it or virus/malware/spyware/ etc scan might be a start as well ..
Runnin windows 7, it makes the sound indicating that my device is detected. Just did A wipe to my phone, still no luck
Ok thats good it see's the phone.
Next is to drag your notifications window down on your phone and click usb connected then click "debugging mode on" or goto settings , development, turn debugging on then after the android man goes from green to orange then look in your device manager/ my computer under com ports
well that error really didnt matter, just had to install superuser after it rebooted and the magic has been done. Thanks alot man. You were a great help bye bye bloatware
You do not have to go though this and downloading things on your PC you can download 4 squared mobile on the android market go to settings-applications-enable install non market apps. Open 4 squared and press menu button on phone and click search type in gingerbreak-v1.30.apk. Download it and open it and click on root device it will root it when your phone is rooted it will turn off. Turn it back on search for a app called super user your rooted. (Hint this can work on all devices and some not like on htc phones sometimes)
So I went through the process of rooting, and deleted a bunch of the bloatware recommended. With the exception of Metronav, IM & Social (I do use Facebook) and MetroPCS Easy WiFi.
The ones I am still unsure of whether or not I shoud uninstall are Voice Dialer and Voice Search.
In lurking around, I have seen reports that after rooting, and removing bloatware, people went from having less than 2mb system ROM free to having around 100.... This would explain speeding up the phone substantially...
In my case, with the uninstalls I have done, I am still at only 19.7 mb free out of 187. So obviously, I haven't noticed any significant increase in the phones speed. Is there something I am missing?
Also, I have read about people getting 3g signal after rooting. I am not getting that either...

Two ways to try to get 3g. Easiest first. Dial *228, then option 5.

Now that you figured the 3G out lol ( it used to be a 8 step process) .. need to download "link2SD" app then move everything to it besides system apps ie: google, contacts, etc & widgets since they will not load on re-boot if they are on the SD. So games, and any other app you've added thats not being used as a widget move then you should get 80-105mb free.

This is exactly what I've done,, and I still get the same issue as the poster above you. When I open superuser it just lists apps for rooting...and root checker says not rooted
(this was to the guy who posted instructions for windows users...)

ok, did as you instructed. My "System ROM" remains the same (19.7 free) I did, however notice that my "Internal" went up from 50ish to 91.3 free. Does this sound right???

Yes. Internal I am showing about the same, Ram is at around 105 free and hd space internal anything above 70mb is going to allow your phone to run smooth .. now just continue to repeat the process of moving every app you download to your sd card as long as it is not a widget and you should maintain the speed along with the free space just incase you need it in the future for a system app of some sort that you want .. i clear my cache once a day usually or every time i surf the web/android market plus delete my tombstones and data cache every once in a while which is located using root explorer /date/tombstones

So, I just went in to data/tombstones as instructed..... Selected all, and deleted. Somehow this deleted all of the files in /data/ and now nothing on my phone works, it went a little skitzo and shut down. I turned it back on, and it somehow reset itself, and I have lost EVERYTHING.... Now I gotta start all over. <<<F**K ME>>> I don't even see any of the apps I had already put on my sd card....
Not your fault, I must have done something wrong. Oh well, back to square one.

ok, just installed a new sd card and link2sd says the same thing at the bottom of the screen..
"Symbolic Link - Second partition not found
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2: device not found
Make sure you have two partitions on your SD card and both are primary."
Should I do some sort of reset on the phone or something???? Everything seems to functioning ok. So I don't know if this is normal, or something o be concerned about. I did notice that before the crash, I had around 93mb free of "Internal" storage. After the crash, and after reinstalling stuff, I have like 153mb free.... So something is definatley gone.

Sorry to hear that but im def spot on deleting the tombstones dat>tombstones>this is the folder you need to clear not data\
I dont know what / how to fix if data\ was deleted .. factory reset is hold power/home/vol down button but it sounds like you already did that .. have you tried inside titanium backup > re-install backup of the files you had and now are missing ?

I thought I was in the tombstones folder, but somehow, I guess I wasn't. Spent the afternoon re-rooting and reinstalling stuff. Seems to be working fine...
You mentioned that you had 100+ of RAM, and around 100 "internal".... My phone shows System ROM (not RAM) of 26.7 free out of like 186. Is this the same as RAM?? This is the same number it showed before the crash too. Just wondering if that is a good number. Before rooting and removing BS, it was only 1.8mb free. So is 26.7 good, or can that be increased somehow??
As for my "Internal", prior to rooting was around 50mb, after rooting went to 96mb, then after the crash and rerooting it is at like 150mb free.

RAM,ROM, Internal Storage are 3 seperate things. Ram is what moves up and down depending on what all you have running and open. So it could say 30mb free if alot of things are open / running or 100+ if you just restarted your phone .. I use 1 touch reboot widget anytime it starts running slow. ROM is internal system memory that you cant change i dont believe and it stays almost full 20mb free or whatever which is system items & processes. Internal is like hard drive space on you phone if you have all of your games and apps that dont require system process on your sd card then you should have 100 or so free so sounds about right. I also use 1 touch cache cleaner also.

Titanium Backup doesn't show RAM on my phone.... Only ROM (26.7mb free), Internal (154mb free) and SD card (1.94 gb free)
