I also have this problem on windows 7 64bit. works fine with non 64 bit tho. I'm pretty sure the drivers for QPST aren't compatible. hope this helps you.

I tried this tweak last night and it worked. I confirmed in FCC Speedtest that download/upload speeds were higher than before. But now today, I am back to my old speeds! I redid the steps in the guide but my phone was still set on Simple IP Only. I clicked write to phone anyways and it rebooted.

For some reason, download speeds are still slow (< 100) but upload is faster than that.

What gives?

Nothing Nothing Nothing and the funny thing is I updated the prl. on my brothers XP os no problem. I don't know if somehow I changed a setting on the phone that will cause QPST to not recognize it but it's killing me. I didn't download the indulge drivers XP updated the drivers automatically will that affect it? What about the Admiral Beast rom should I flash the stock rom back? I'll try anything at this point thanks.

Ok I replaced the Samsung Admire drivers with the Admire Generic CDMA drivers, I reinstalled different versions of the QPST, I went into properties and changed COM ports, bard rates. I read in another forum to take the SD card out and connect it and also to connect it in recovery mode. I even read where some people have had to change the Hardware Ids to get it to recognize their phone although I haven't been that brave. Is it time to throw in the towel? Can anyone refer me to another forum that specializes in QPST? I can't wait to get the LG Esteem lol!!!!

I'm a complete noob at this. I've rooted my phone and got the Admiral Beast theme running. I'm trying to do this speed up thing, when I go to QPST I get a phone number that isn't mine, in fact it is on the phone info menu under the heading MIN. Why am I getting this and how do I make sure my number finally identifies my phone so I can continue?
By the way I'm also on Win7 64.

Thanks gbiggie, I already have the SPC # but because the phone number that shows up on the com port in QPST isn't the number of this phone but it is a number under the heading MIN on phone info. Is it normal to have differing numbers show up under the info screen? Should I continue with the process even though its not my #?

I just got some clarification on the MIN/MDN. Both are unique to my phone and I guess this means I can continue with the process to improve reception. Just want to give a huge Thanks to all of you who make these sites possible.

Thumbs up

updated via QPST, has some problems with the program recognizing the phone on my com ports, but after rebooting the phone with it plugged in and restarting the program after the phone booted it recognized it.(something you guys who are having problems might try) Went from about 220kb/s down and about the same up, its now 760kb/s - 900kb/s down and around 350kb/s up, it varies ALOT depending on the signal strength, but its much more stable and faster! HD video on youtube takes a few secs to pre-buffer but it runs smooth, a 3MB file from the market took only 5-10 seconds to download and i can run team viewer on the quality setting. its sooooo much nicer now, THANKS OP!!

Finally got everything done correctly, I had to find the M.IP tab to change to simple IP only. Once that got done my stats jumped considerably on download. From 111kbps to 512kbps, upload remains about the same, now to see if it holds for the next few days.

Big thanks to all of you on these boards for helping out. A quick question about Speed Test. It loads my nearest server as being in Dallas and when I scroll through all their listings Dallas is the closest one. But I live in Northern Cali, any clue why I can't be recognized by the server in San Fran? When I use speed test from my pc it always uses the servers in S.F. or San Jose. I would think the readings would be much better if I could use my local servers, at least ping should improve measureably.

I don't get why mine will only offer towers in Tx, Ok, Ks and others in that area. Right now ping averages 187-240.

Write to Phone (the phone should restart by itself)
Hi,

I am new to this but just signed with MetroPCS and have the Samsung Admire. I ran the QPST but it does not show my phone. If I connect it to either a Win 7 64 bit or XP 32 bit machine I still don't see the admire listed under phone. I also don't see it showing up in the "My Computer" on either machine.

You mentioned the phone should be in the debug mode & I'm not sure how you do that.

I followed the direction and found under MEID in the admire, both Dec & Hex numbers and when I filled them in from here [URL="http://www.meidconverter.net/"] I get a different SPC number if I enter the Dec or the Hex. I'm not sure which one to use. Also, I'm assuming when I pasted the MEID numbers to be converted, that I only paste the alpha-numerics after the colon. Is that correct?

Either way, I don't see the Admire on either the system or in QPST.

Is there a driver I need to download that allows the phone to appear so I can make this mod to it? Other ideas I may need to try?

Thanks!

MM

Update...

After much looking I found this link which shows how to put the phone in debug mode: How To Root Samsung Admire Android Phone [Guide] and it also addresses the drivers issue. I installed the drivers and put the phone in debug mode and now can see the phone in QPST. I selected the Diagnostic instead of serial and modem.

As to the "m.IP Tab" I couldn't find info on that anywhere. I wasn't sure if that was found on the Admire or in QPST, I saw no tab labelled M.IP anywhere I looked. I tried the help in QPST & nothing showed. I finally found a link that said it was found in QPST under the Service Programming section and if you go to the right of the tabs there are two right/left arrows and if you click the one to go right that M.IP tab comes up. I had no idea...

I think I'm OK up to this point and between the info/links within the original post and the rooting page I just showed the link to, all I need to know now to do this is how to accurately enter the MEID info into the MEID converter?

{The MEID is confusing because if I enter the Dec or Hex values in the mediaconverter link I get a different SPC value. If I also include the full line such as Dec:1234567890 I get a different value than if I entered the Dec: numerals after the Dec: like 1234567890 - I would expect if I entered the Dec value and entered the Hex value seen in the Admire under "MEID" to be converted, I would get the same SPC value but this is not what happens. I'm unsure of what to enter to get the correct SPC value.}

Lastly; instruction #9 says: "9-M.IP tab change the mobile ip behavior to: simple IP only Write to Phone (the phone should restart by itself)" - I take this to mean when I select "Simple IP only" that at that time the phone should restart on its own, that I shouldn't need to do anything to restart it?

Thanks!

You should use the numbers that come after DEC: not the hex#'s
Also since you found the IP settings yes just check the one labeled simpleIP only and then enter and the phone will take it from there on its own

Thanks for that, I will do it when I return from this weekend in Boston, all should go just fine.

Now to read up on rooting pros & cons to see if I should do this but that is another topic for another thread.

What I need most of all is better receptivity in that thanks to a lack of signal I can't make/get calls in my bedroom, I need to do so in other rooms.

Thanks to all for the help.

It has a noticeable effect when I play youtube and pandora.

I tried this on an LG Optimus M and it actually seems slower.

How long did it take for you guys to get data? I didn't get data for 5 minutes-ish and I panicked a bit and switched back. although on Mob only and Simple-Mob f/back it came in pretty quick.

Windows 7 x64. Optimus m, I had the drivers for the phone installed and I ran across no problems with it not recognizing the phone, just clicked on add port and selected my phone, everything went smooth, works 100%, Thanks.

Also, phone rooted w/ custom ROM on.

Nice speeds. My top speeds are still 1/3 of yours and I'm down here in the Dallas, TX area; this is Metro's headquarters (well, Richardson is). I'm getting up to 600's. I had one test that got up to 800+ kbps.

Edit: so I did this to my Optimus M. I only changed it to the simple ip though, I didn't try the option for both. I may yet, but for now I like the speed increases. I'm getting any where from 300 kbps to 600 and I've had one burst up to 800 some.

If you live in 3g coverage are and don't have it on your phone then *228 from phone press option 5 to update roaming list. It will update then reboot and you will have 3g.
