[ROM/CWM/Kernel] CM7.2-RC1-requisite0 [BETA2]
What the hell is this?
It's my build(s) of Cyanogenmod 7.2 Release Candidate 1, ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.8, and my custom Kernel.
How do I use it?
First make sure you do a nandroid backup .
Flash my CWM Recovery and Kernel package , then go to Advanced->Reboot recovery. .
Install the latest version of my Cyanogenmod 7.2 ROM .
(This step is only for non-MetroPCS users) Install the Cricket Wireless or nTelos APN configuration for your data carrier (MetroPCS users can safely skip this step).
Install the latest gapps (no longer necessary to mount system beforehand) zip.
(OPTIONAL) Install the overclocked kernel .
Select Reboot system now and wait at least 10 minutes for the market updates to take effect (connect to wifi first if data connection isn't working )(first boot might take a minute ).
What works?
Wifi
Bluetooth
Data
Texting
Cell Service
USB
Camera (video)
Data/MMS (in 90% of cases)
What doeswn't work?
Camera (still pictures)
Data/MMS (in 10% of cases)
Do you provide source code?
Yes. You can check my
GitHub here.
What did you change recently?
You can always see my latest changes in my commit log
here .
Did anybody help you?
Of course. Shabbypenguin was there for me in the beginning. Unforgiven512 provided me a basic device profile to go off of. SuigintouLain provided the original CWM I used to flash my kernel and CWM. hroark13 helped me indirectly by providing his Galaxy Prevail device profile which helped me learn quite a bit, and directly by providing his RIL, Battery Server, and USB Controller code, and nudging me in the right direction for fixing data. Angablade has helped me with many ideas, and eventually we'll be collaborating on the kernel. And last but not least, pressy4pie for helping me test and being a good little monkey.
Can I PM you?
You can, but you'll get a faster response if you join us on IRC. (irc.irondust.net/#admire)
Wait, I want to go back to stock, but your recovery won't let me!?
Don't panic, just install SuigintouLain's original CWM and restore from your nandroid backup you made earlier. (You DID make one, didn't you? )
HERPEDY DURPEDY YOU CAN INSTALL THIS USING CWM HERPDERP
Me want eye candy!
Easy, it's attached below.

This won't touch your ROM. Just installs a new kernel and recovery.

Alright, so this is a prerequisite for the CM7 alpha I'll be posting in a little bit.
This will give you a kernel and recovery with ext4 support. You can flash the zip in your current CWM (hopefully).
Download
here .
CM7 is coming soon. Just a few kinks to work out.
So my phone is stuck on the ANDROID screen before it boots into CWM.
**EDIT: Got it to boot into CWM by holding the buttons.

Mmm. Not good. Means it's not mounting the rfs filesystems. Not something I ran into on my phone (lol but my filesystem is ext4).
Restore boot from your backup (advanced restore).

All you have to do is keep holding the buttons to boot into recovery.
Go to restore.
Hit advanced and restore boot.
Fixed my device.

Yeah, the kernel isn't probably going to boot anything but the CM7, I think I'ma pull it before some nubs who can't read huge red letters do some damage.

Is this working? I would love to flash
Edit: By working, I mean can I format to Ext4, and flash a normal ROM, like Borai Stock, or Monster?

So even if I flash another ROM besides this one, those problems shouldn't arise.

I would not recommend flashing this now. It does work, but its not ready.

requisite0, question for you.
Are battery meter and data issues kernel related, CM7 problems, or a combination of both?

I don't believe the data issue to be kernel related, as the radio is working, it's just not getting on the network.
As far as the battery goes, it could be either or both, hard to tell. Most phones have a battd (battery daemon) that CM would interface with to get the battery meter going, but apparently Samsung does this differently, and I've yet to figure it out.

Only "bug" I've ran into is not being able to restore non-ext4 backups (which is to be expected).

The reason for that is because the file system was backed up as RFS, formatting back to RFS from Ext4 should solve the issue.

@op, there is a bug that happened before. if you try to reboot the device it'll be stuck on the android screen, this is possibly due to it reflashing the new recovery, idk.

you don't need Linux. I'm using it on my Windows PC. I only use linux for more complex things, like recompiling a kernel, or messing with Java. This is actually really simple.

Okay, so I tested it before with Req. for data. It looks frozen at first when you install the CM7 Alpha but give it a few minutes and it will move on.

You may have to use ODIN to recover the old 5.0.2.7 version of CWM to use your back-up. But yes.

After flashing everything I left my phone alone for a little bit and did the adb command.

I hate to be the n00b of the thread (and Android as a whole), but can I flash the kernel and recovery and maintain/reflash Admiral Beast? I'm waiting on CM7 to be a little cleaner, but if I can't do the above I'll wait.
If so, what bugs may I encounter?
