Last Hurrah [ROM/Kernel/CWM] CM7.2-RC2-2012-08-11-requisite0-BETA -- CWM Cache Issue Addressed
Since Im finished all my work on the Admire/Vitality, I am cleaning up my dev machine. I came across Some old work of mine, and of Requisite0's. So I figured What The Hell -- may as well put it out there as a last hurrah.
This is Requisite0's last compile of CM7.2 as of 08/11/12.
This zip comes with a new compiled OC Kernel, CWM 5.0.2.8 with ext4 support AND the cache issue resolved, as well as the CM build.
Please note: I AM NOT SUPPORTING THIS ROM. I WILL NOT BE ANSWERING QUESTIONS / ISSUES / BUGS -- FIGURE THEM OUT AMONG YOURSELVES. Im just putting this out there for the community before I move on to other things.
Bugs: The only thing that isnt working is the Camera. It FC's upon opening. I have tried myself (but not too hard) for a little bit over the past day but havent been successful. Im not going to spend any more time on it, thats a thing for y'all to fix proper. A temp-fix I found is to use Camera Illusion and Video Illusion from the Play Store.
Everything else "Should" be working (although I dont have service on my phone, nor do I have a MetroPCS admire any longer to test).
This is compiled for MetroPCS. I have tried this on Cricket. Talk and Text work, but no success at getting data working (didnt try too hard though), and since I do not have my Vitality in service any longer I am not going to try to get it to work. Another thing to tie you all over to fix up.
Disclaimer: Same Bullsh*t as usual. Im not responsible for you bricking your shize -- blah blah blah..
Installation:
Install as normal
/data/cache wipe recommended
Flash through CWM.
Installer will install CM7, Kernel, then patch/upgrade your CWM to the new fixed image.

try using QPST and try the data recovery thing from the generic update solution thread, see if that brings back data?
Well i know why my number was unknown. My phone can't handle being overclocked i guess? So i made a backup with a motherboard that can but it isn't activated with metro

so thats why you have your number unknown?
id try flashing this and see if i could try anything to get it to work right but like i said i have no working data until the end of the month.
my admire can overclock i've been using cm7.2 beta for a long time with the 900mhz kernel... and i installed monster 5.3 full build, all of these successful

I can also install cm7.2 with no problems. But i can't install OA 900mhz version or this
hmm i can install all overclock roms but i get a reboots throughout the day so i have to underclock. ill try to install this when in about a weeks time as ive messed too much with my admire recently and it needs a break, leaving it stock 2.3.6 for now
For those having boot issues you may also want to try flashing the RC1 Kernel -- see if that boots.
thanks i got it booting now,.... theres a huge difference between the other version and this one....
but the kernel is not exposed to the cm settings ... but theres a huge difference

EDIT: first try, factory reset, format system, flashed, waited 10 mins didnt boot up. stuck on the ANDROID text almost as if it were booting up into CWM. gonna try the older kernel now.... as i was about the flash the older kernel, the android text disappeared and the screen went completely dark, pressing the power button would turn on the button lights but thats all. didnt wait to see if anything else happened
EDIT 2: flashed the older kernel over the cm7 zip here. waiting to see what happens.... 10 minute mark passed, same effect as the first edit, blank screen, press power button, buttons light up, nothing, gonna wait a few more mins to see if anything happens.......... in the meanwhile can someone post up exact instructions on how they flashed and got it to boot up? maybe even some screenshots??

Have you tried the oa kernel? That may be an option
i dont dont know how to just flash the kernel for OA since it is within the actual rom itself. i can boot up the older cm kernel but idk why its not booting up no, killah was able to but again all phones are different. for now ill just experiment and see if i can get it to boot

you could take the boot.img from oa and use it to replace the boot.img in the rom.

If you have an OA nandroid you can just do an advanced restore to restore the boot image. Otherwise, just pack the boot image into the zip (remember to back up the original boot image first).

lol kage you should know best that when i ever mess with a zip file and remove something and replace it i cant ever get it flash. i tried so many edits to bad themes i made why do you think i bothered you soo much with all my question. i bet that was super annoying for you :/
its alright though i dont have the flashing bug anymore. when i first discovered this site i flashed every available rom we had so the bug is out of me lol im happy being a stock for now

got it booted up, took a whole to find service... but it did. Data doesn't show though. gonna try apn back up and restore now. the service bars are broken by the way.. says I have 4 bars (i wish). when I really probabaly have like 2.
edit: tried restoring an apn and editing manually in the settings and it doesn't seem to be sticking o_o

You could try replacing the mms.apk with a known working one. That may kickstart data. Who knows. Its a beta, and its been in my shelf for months. lol
I can offer suggestions where I can, but since I dont have an admire any longer, I cant really be much help in this regard.
Feel free to tear it down and get it working guys.
Cheers
I give up trying to get this to boot on my admire. I'll just wait lol
Dude! I gave you my dev admire! Get on it and get this working!! 0.o
And on an edit :
If it's not booting cuz of the boot image, just restore your working boot image, and remove the one from the zip (make sure to edit the updater script)..

Hey Spz0, I'm trying to build something from source for the Admire, would you know (I don't know if I'm wording this right) where I could find the github device tree for the Admire?
EDIT: After more googling, I found PG's github and found what I think is the device profile for the Admire from (forked is the term?) req0's github but it says its for CM7... What I'm doing is different... would it still work?

All depends on what you're trying to build. Start by getting the source code from sammys dev site. Then sync your repo, whether it be aosp, aokp, cm, etc...
Lots of great resources and beginner tuts out there on teh Google
u know i have never asked but......mr. Spz0 what does Spz0 stand for? what is the story behind your name? indulge a school girls questions please mr developer. i have wondered but just hoped u say.

Only Spz0, the Playa from the Himalayas! LoL! Just wanted to give respect from the BX to the dev (in collaboration with some of the other demigods) who hooked up my phone w/ the OA!!! Best regards towards your new projects on other platforms dude!
how is it that only Spz0 and PG are able to get anything out of req?
Are we not special enough?
How did Spz0 get authorization to release his stuff?
or is Spz0 and Requisite0 both the same person? that would be cool. answers a lot of questions about how Spz0 gets all his stuff.
I guess having the two identities also stops a lot of stupid questions. LOL.
Am i rambling?
