Default Advent Vega 249, 10", Tegra 2, 2.2Android

Just thought i would start a thread dedicated to the new Advent Tablet that's getting released mid October.

i know its been mentioned in other posts, but as this should be able to be picked up by regular joes (well, UK folk anyway) in 1 week, i thought it deserved its own place.

as soon as its available in Dixons (poor mans best buy) i will get down there and if they have it on display i will have a play around with the interface, in particular smoothness and report back.

unless this feels like a dog, then i think this may well be the tablet that i am looking for.

Specs released for Advent Vega, the 249 Android Tegra tablet, 'read like a wish list' -- Engadget

did mean to post about this, as promised did go into pcworld and had a chat with a couple of the sales team, they had no idea it was coming out, anyway ended with 6-7 of them looking at the link that was posted on this forum last week

one of them has my number so going to ring me when they come in for a test session

specs looked good for the money, think it really comes down to interface/ screen

for us uk guys it could be a archos beater

2 sims on one account, has anyone been down that route

I'm really excited for this to come out, the specs look great and on one of the preview videos it looked responsive and quick.

It says the price is 249 euro, and I did a quick currency conversion on google and it says there that it would be $350 US, so why does everywhere say $400 US?

Good to see a tablet with 2.2 finally in action.

Video here: Advent Vega tablet won't come with Android Market, might get it as part of Gingerbread update (video) -- Engadget

Might get market based on gingerbread rumors, but I am sure that a hack could be used to put market on there. They have appslib on the device, wonder if a similar hack to market4archos could be done.

Nice to see a tablet finally coming out!

dont see why not, specs are good for it.

it is in pcworlds latest promo mag you get from in store, with a retail price of 229 ..............20 less than expected plus there is some voucher codes for pcworld/currys in my vouchers.com inbox, current offer is 5% of all orders over 199 but runs out before 18th, will post any new codes when they include the lauch date

It would appear that PCWorld have removed the advert on their website which i must say is a bit concerning although Dixons are still advertising it as "Coming Soon" which is the only bit of hope that iam holding on to because i need two of these for my girls for Christmas other wise its back tot he drawing board.

Iam impressed with your findings so fingers crossed. You mentioned that it was only 229 in pcworlds promo magazine. Did you pick one up from Derby and when is it valid to?

It still seems a little strange our both Pcworld and Currys have stopped advertising it.

i cant take any credit just watching the uk based android forums and being a pain in the arse to all the staff at derbys pcworld....the one next to morros

will take a picture tomorrow of the promo leaflet, picked mine up from derby store, they were next to the samsung tab stand

the folio seems to be rushed and badly flawed, archos seems lacking in simple power, vega just might be the b@stard child of the 2

From the few reviews I have found on the Folio i tend to agree with you. Iam only hoping its not the same with the Vega.

The Archos (now advertised on Dixons website) was my original thought before i came across the Vega and becuase of the Vega specs does not seem to appeal to me in the same way as it did before.

I will nip it to Pc World Derby this week becuase iam not far away to see if they know anymore.

Just for anyone that is interested it seems both Currys and PCWorld have started advertising the Vega again. Maybe we could be looking at a release date of the 18th. Fingers crossed.

Default Advent Vega from Store

Been to both PC World and Curry's today (18/11/10) neither of them have a clue when it will be out although they both have a Gift Guide with the Vega in and Curry's have a slot ready for the Vega along side the now taken off Tosh Folio and the nice looking Gal Tab.

Because your nexus one isn't a dual core. Android isn't ready for dual core. Gingerbread is being tweaked at the moment to prep it for the dual core nexus s. Their concern isn't all these premature T2 tablets. Not their fault the mfg's don't know how to listen to them.

look I'm no CPU designer or low level programmer but when I run single core optimised software e.g. legacy stuff on a modern dual/quad whatever, it isn't slower, it just takes no advantage of the dual cores. Does anyone have a technical explanation?

You might have to look to xda for an answer, but it's beyond a coincidence that all tegra 2 tablets are having an issue. I think it's more that the OS just doesn't know how to work with a dual core processor. X86 environments have been around for years as have dual core processors in that environment. This is not the case with android. Single core is all the OS knows. Heck, the OS needs major revamping to go from ARM to x86 and Intel is spearheading that work. If it were easy, we'd be running android on all those umpc tablets out there by now.

Apparently they are pretty close to completing the port to the X86 processor. Cisco is planning to release their CIUS tablet in March and it's running an ATOM processor.

I sat in on an internet meeting with my company and Cisco a couple of weeks ago where they indicated that they now have demo CIUS tablets available for some of their larger customers.

I'm looking forward to it. Will make something like the Inspiron Duo very versatile. Dual-boot. Android for the quick access/tablet experience and win 7 when you need to work. Would definitely put my e4200 up for sale then, which I still might do anyway. The Duo seems like a nice compromise. Though the Lenovo lepad will be a nice alternative to with the removable tablet, though you lose the win7 part.

My wife ordered one and it arrived this morning. Within an hour of her powering it up it had crashed 3 times. She is sending it back, it's not worth 250. The screen isn't very good and it feels really "cheap".
