Default Custom HTC HERO Rom 1.5 super FAST.

Folks ,

I just install custom 1.5 HTC HERO rom on my hero and have to say its just amazing..

phone have no LAG at all.. mean no LAG its just faster compare to the original rom comes with the phone.

i never done the radio update as i had trouble last night using the custom radio i decided dont even go there..

just update the 1.5 custom rom and its super fast.. and can say now when my iphone 3gs next to it no speed difference when scrolling and going into settings it even faster actually.

i am just thinking when the official rom com out how fast that would be

Hi - did you use the unlockr.com method? How is the the ROM different to the standard Orange one as far as interface/apps are concerned? Did you have to reconfigure internet settings etc? Thanks Phil

yes i did the unlockr.com method.

what i did was root using the following method.

and use this method to use 1.5 ROM

How To: Load a Custom ROM on Your HTC Hero | The Unlockr

donw load the 1.5 rom from here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/292018/02-09-1-5-modaco-custom-hero-rom-is-here/

i would advised dont even trying to update radio as i had so much trouble updating radio update so i am using the radio update which was shipped with the phone i'll wait for HTC update that automatically over the air.

i am on orange when load the 1.5 orange logos and bookmarks was gone..
apart from the everything exactly the same and couple of extra apps in the where u can adjust font settings of ur phone as well as the window open speed and stuff.

camera .. now you can touch on the screen to do auto focus instead camera does it automatically in the original rom.. its like iphone 3gs u can touc the screen where u like camera to focus on.
yes APN settings was delete but was easy to put them pack just going to settgins and add new apn which is orangeinternet to access the internet..

Note: when you do update to 1.5 make sure do the backup then wipeout then install sd card update zip...
but boy it is FAST.

Hi... that doesnt look *too* hard to do. Not sure whether to do this or just wait for the Over The Air update in a few days

mcmonkiez, could you do me a big favour and check if the custom rom (which includes the leaked update) runs gáydar social networking profiles? eg www.gáydar.co.uk/rob (but without the funny line over the letter a).

I'm super eager to do this...My only concern is after I do this and the real update comes in a few days (if it even does) how will the phone be effected???

Also, will this update even come to US users over the air?? I'm assuming not and that we'll have to go to the HTC site to get it right?

Thanks

Jeez, I am SOOOO tempted by this.

How are the signal issues/sms issues on this build?

Slightly puzzled as the video doesn't show any significant improvement over my current system. Also that's far from a one-click install.. Will just wait for the proper one, seems pointless to go for a hookey one if the real one's due out soon, then a comparison can be done.

Hi, I just got my Hero about a week ago, and it already has 1.5 installed? Seems odd.

When people say 'a couple of days', will it be a couple of days? Do we know this for sure? I am extremely dissapointed that HTC have failed to let their customers know

Not only don't we know for sure when the update is coming, we then have to rely on Orange to implement it

i made backup of my all apps on sd card and once i upgrade to 1.5 i just restore all the apps using the same app onto my phone it was very simple.

by the way..

my orange reception also have better then before i can see full 5 bars of Gprs where i use to get only 3 bars.

so i bet rom have made alot of improvement... its not orange network or t-mobile fault at all. its the handset with better firmware thats all it counts.

This has been eating into me all day so as soon as I got home this evening I went for it - and - yeh IT WORKED! No problems at all with the method as described and now I have a super fast and smooth Hero (amazing that the lag is TOTALLY software related)!

Thank you mcmonkiez for the inspiration otherwise I would have chickened out! I can't see any further benefit from the forthcoming official update as this seems to have all that is promised (including java).
The only thing that is a slight problem with the new ROM is that when I add contacts to the favourite people widget, their photos won't show up - do you get this as well?

Otherwise I would encourage anyone to do this, especially on UK Orange as who knows when the update will come and you can enjoy the Hero now as it always should have been.

radio update update better reception , wifi connection or other settings within the radio file..

Each Android platform version is designed to run on top of a specifc version of the radio firmware. Typically, each successive release of the Android platform relies on a newer version of the radio firmware, so whenever you are planning to flash a new system image to your device, whether upgrade or downgrade, you should also update the radio firmware to the version expected by the platform. If you do not update your radio image, the system may encounter problems.

what will happen if I install this ROM and then the upgrade comes from Orange/HTC?

Will it mean they will not be able to upgrade the ROM?

and I dont know when Orange will update HTC hero firmware maybe this month or may be in couple of months. i have no idea and not going to wait for them as my phone is working so fast and i'm not even thinking if they going to release it or not lol

Ohh man you cant all say its good and easy, its tempting me to do it now! lol

the thing that puts me of is that I've installed lots of Apps, some of them paid. When i flash this new rom, wont it all be gone? Or is there a backup tool that will stick everything back and re-add all the apps I had installed? Or do i have to do it manually?

Default Android OS 1.5 ("cupcake") and HERO's Rom (firmware) 1.5 are two different things

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) there seems to be a confusion going on with the 1.5 version number.

All Hero Devices come with Android Operating System version 1.5 = cupcake android release.

On top of this "cupcake", we have Hero's Sense interface which all Heroes are provided with, and that's the 1.0 version. It is this what I think where the upgrade is.

So, the phone will still have Android OS Cupcake (1.5), but with a newer Sense (from 1.0 to 1.5).

I might be wrong, but that's how I think this goes.

download an application from Backup for root users .

that will backup your all the apps once ur wipe out and update the new rom just install the same app again and restore it from ur SD card as all the backup sits on ur sd card.

I just posted a new thread...THIS JUST F-CKED ME royally.

So, I'm still trying to screw with this "quick one click" update and it doesn't seem to be the case. I've been screwing with this phone for about 30 minutes and to be completely honest the process did seem SUPER easy and was very specific and straight to the point.

My problem is that after the last step when adding the ROM, it tells you to install update.zip and after that simply select reboot. Well.....after selecting reboot it did just that.....rebooted me and brought me straight to a DEAD BLACK SCREEN. The screen wouldn't allow me to exit out or shut down at all.

Now I have a paper weight.....that allows me to only ROOT.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

3rd-Geer, I was feeling very tempted and adventurous to proceed, but something was holding me back, I wasn't 100% sure, there was something making me feel uneasy about proceeding, a gut feeling if you will. I feel for what happened to you, however I also have a hunch you'll be able to find a quick solution to solve whatever is causing the issue with your device.

3rd-Geer, you could try browsing the xda-developer forums or MoDaCo forums for an answer. 1.5 is Paul MoDaCo's ROM so he may be able to assist you in recovering your phone. If you did a nandroid backup from the recovery screen then you should be able to recover to your phone last good working state. Failing that you could try a wipe to factory in the same recovery screen.

Hope it works out for you.

Can someone please clear this update issue up for me??

I've got a brand new G2 turning up from Tmobile tomorrow. Will this have the latest ROM on or will I need to install it when Tmobile release the update?

There's no way of telling until you actually get it. Go to "Settings - About phone" and check "Build number"; 1.xx.xxx.xxx is the 'old' ROM and 2.xx.xxx.xxx is the updated one.

OK FOLKS my hero is no longer a zero. After getting some help from another user here, I actually got it to work.

If you get the black screen of death, just pull out the battery and put it back in. Power up to the Root, and then go through a wipe again and then install the zip package. Took me about 4 or so more times to get it but I finally did get it to work.

NOW THE CONFIRMATION.......THIS DAMN THING IS FAST AS HELL!

It's like night and day, seriously. It's like a completely different phone. The only annoying thing is all programs and shortcutz etc are gone and there are no defaults available if you try to use the factory settings to set up their standard layouts. I had to go from memory and remember exactly how my set up was. Though, this was a tiny fee for an amazing upgrade.

Another thing that everyone should be aware of :::
Only do new Flash or update with a fully charged battery .!!!
running out of power during this is a very likely or surely phone DEATH !!

And folks, for the sake of your own (and others) sanity, PLEASE read the instructions posted @MoDaCo before proceeding. There are a couple of gotchas that can cause major headaches if you don't.

Sorry for more stupid questions, but............

If I was to leave mine as it comes from Tmobile (un-rooted etc), will I eventually get this update and the speed that goes with it?

Default htc unofficial update

just installed the madoco (sorry if that's wrong spelling) update to my htc hero and WOW, it flies now. incredible difference and a bit suprised that htc didn't ship like this.
the phone is now AS fast if not FASTER then my wife's iphone 3GS.
i used the unlocrk system, took me 20 mins maybe and i am not super techy so all you "newbies" out there who want to do it but are worried don't be. the step by step info is super easy to follow and its 110% worth it, it's like havign a new phone.
back everything up first though as it does wipe your info but again VERY VERY worth it the speed differnce is night and day from the out of the box rom.
DO IT!!!!
any questions PM me.

Default dont worry be happy and FAST

also i would instal the extended version of the new rom some fun apps are included.
and don't worry about paid app, when you go into the maket/my downloads they are all there marked "purchased" so you just download them again witout charge. did this with mine inc copilot, no problem reinstalling and not charged again.

again it's so worth it this upgrade is AWESOME
