Alright. Got Velocity 1.0 working.

Some things I ran into:
-You have to install the things in the Install directory, or at least I did.
-Got some errors about a .gif file not being found, and also about the LG Mobile Update not being able to connect to the Internet. I ignored them and the flash was successful the 2nd time. (the first time, I had not installed the things in the Install directory. I installed them and then rebooted the PC and the phone).
-Don't touch your phone after the rollback to V6, it will get a bunch of force close errors but so long as you ignore them and run the ADB.bat, you'll get into Fastboot mode.
-It was not necessary on my Windows 7 Enterprise x64 to manually install the drivers after starting ADB.bat, once I was sure everything was installed in Device Manager, I closed Device Manager and then it asked me if I wanted to install stock 2.2 or Velocity 1.0, duh...I chose Velocity 1.0 and now I'm tethered to it!

Where do I send the donations again? I am beyond thrilled right now

Use the LGNPST alternate V6 downgrade

i did go to the guide for the downgrade and got hung up with step 30. i kept getting told that my phone could not be programmed at that time. but when we tried to make a call from it,it worked. so we came back over after we did the checkin and finished from step 10 and it worked.i almost had a heart attack worrying that i was going to brick my phone. but im happy to say my phone is now rooted and i have the Velocity 1.0 rom!

so since my ally is rooted froyo and using velocity 1.0 and this is my first rooted phone i have a possibly stupid question. i was watching some videos on youtube about rooting and rom managers and overclocking. do i need a rom manager? and someone said to go to 4shared and search setcpu and download the newest one. and when we rooted my phone i dont remember doing anything about recovery. my boyfriend was the one who actually did everything. i just did all the looking around and asking questions. so are my questions stupid? or did we miss something?

Is there a way to get the Ally to Froyo without using the LG Updater? I saw a poster say they followed another method, but the link given just winds up pointing back to this thread... it's like a big link loop with no alternative instructions. The LG Updater and my phone seem to be enemies. The software constantly complains that it cannot communicate with my phone.

Connection seems secure. Phone says it is connected to the computer. Computer recognizes the connection. No trouble mounting and unmounting either... but LG says they ain't talkin'... figuratively speaking.

Thanks I'll give that a try. I was really beating my head against the wall, because I also tried the Fastboot 2.1 FroyoLite option Savoxis listed. That had me super confused because it says it is for those who are using 2.1 custom roms with fastboot, but when you run the Froyo.bat one of the first things it tells you is that it probably isn't going to work if you're using a 2.1 rom... which it didn't. Anyway, I was a little afraid to ask for help or clarification on why it was made to help with 2.1 updates, but states that it probably won't work for them when I saw how Sav responded to another user a few pages back in the thread.

Hopefully this will bring me some solace. Thanks.

Addendum: I hit a wall at step 18 in that guide. I am unable to change the file type to all files or see any other bin files with an extension other than .BIN. The drop down doesn't have an all files option or anything other than .bin -- typing *.* into the file name box doesn't reveal any files in the BIN folder either.

i wonder if I could change the file name from a TOT extension into a BIN if that would work.

To those keeping score at home...

Using the non-LG updater method, doesn't appear to have done any damage to my phone, but I'm not on Froyo either.

It removed my 2.1 Velocity 0.4 and gave me back what looks like a stock 2.1. I requested the updates as instructed, but I'm still sitting on firmware version 2.1-update1 and baseband vs740mv7.5210.1013.

#10 and forward are all done on the PC or the cell phone? I've never used adb for rooting so I don't know it that refers to a file on the PC or on the phone.

Ok guys. I have followed the steps in both this guide and the guide to reverting to V6. I got my phone back to stock V6 with no problems.

My problem lies in trying to run ABD.bat. Everytime I do it I get the "Android Spooner" option. My phone never boots into fastboot when I run the .bat. I really have no idea what to do. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers and programs and rebooted my comp in between.

Another thing I couldn't figure out is when I ran the Drivers.bat I would select option 2 and then it would shut down without installing them. I installed everything in the install folder too.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance!

@JACE417- did you restore the stock recovery? OTA's will fail if that is not installed.

So you got the drivers installed correctly?? And make sure you dont have a froyo folder in a froyo folder. That will keep the batch scripts from running.

All the letters in the LG Updater are all "?'s" Someone please help.

EDIT: I got that part to work. The Drivers.bat didn't install everything fully the first time I ran it.

if this phone is updated to 2.2 via ota will this work ok? or do i need to flash back to stock? unsure if ota will give me fastboot

You need to check if you have fastboot BEFORE. The ota update wont change that. If you already have root on the phone now. You can open terminal emulator and type "reboot bootloader" if it reboots into fastboot you have it, if it just reboot then you need to downgrade. If the phone is not rooted you can open up command prompt in windows start adb turn on usb debugging, plug the phone into the usb, turn the phone off. Right after the vzw splash enter "adb reboot bootloader" in windows command. You will only have a few seconds to issue it before you wont have root access abynmore. If you dont have fastboot then you will need to downgrade. Probably be more reliable to use LGNPST downgrade. If you do have fastboot you use the "lite" download zips.

Everytime I get into the adb menu and click stock 2.2 it exits with an error. try it on my other pc and it says its trying to locate phone but won't connect.

I guess im also confused in how this will in anyway ROOT my 2.2 ally.

Are you using this guide to downgrade? i dont think so, try holding end+home+volup to reset it.or volume down. Then take the ota updates

Hi,

I'm new here and have never rooted a phone. I already had 2.2 and was attempting to root using Tridents guide. Major fail. I recieved non-stop messages stating that the android.process.acore stopped unexpectedly. I did a hard reset and found that I had downgraded my phone back to 2.1-update1. I can use the phone, but am unsure where to go from here.

Should I start following the directions to root again from the top? (I attempted to update back to 2.2 using the verizon system update setting on my phone, but nothing would happen. It would say "installing update" and even reboot my phone, but no update would actually occur)

Advice/Reassurance welcome...please!!

This is normal! You need to do a data wipe/factory reset, then follow the guide from there ive done this twice trust me! Good luck
Now when you installed the updates did you use the #*#*checkin#*#*# method? I dont know how to help you there just try doing the wipe then try installing again

Did this now my screen is stuck at the setup screen with an error saying the application setup wizard process com android setup has stopped unexpecadly, Now I can't turn on usb debugging because im stuck at this screen. Something is just telling me to not even bother with this thing. So much easier to root a DROID.

But the guide downgrades to 2.1 then you take all the ota updates. So where are you and what have you done

OK, So, I did this and went back to run the directions from the top, since of the goal is to root 2.2.1 and still nothing!

I would get all the way to # 11 but I never found "ADB bootloader Device" anywhere in the device manager. What I did find was "ADB interface" or something like that, and I attempted the rest of the directions from there but, nothing happend. Where did I go wrong?

Your phone has to be in fastboot (blue screen very small white writing uptop) for that step to install the drivers. Adb is completely seperate.

Just so you know the first part of the guide LGMU downgrades to zv6 the original release to gain access to fastboot. Then you have to take all the ota updates then boot into fastboot, install drivers, flash stock rooted w/amonra recovery or velocity. These are not a substitution for the guiide. You just seemes lost as to WHAT it is supposed to be doing. So in order for the rest of the guide to work, you must have the fastboot drivers installed and working properly.

Followed the guide here step by step on a Pre-Owned Ally with 2.2 already installed. Had 0 problems getting it rooted and running. Only thing I encountered was the stock launcher would crash on me, so I installed GO Launcher EX and all is well. Great guide, great ROM.

well if youve managed to get downgrade to 2.1 you should have all the drivers instaled and working except fastboot, first off you need to take all the OTA updates til you are at the most current, 2.2.1 AKA froyo aka ZVD the you so you should be ale to open windows command prompt and enter

adb reboot bootloader

and reboot into fastboot, but i *think* the ADB.bat batch script does this for you.

If you guys have so many issues why dont you use the LGNPST guide to go back to v6 rather than LGMU? LGNPST is 10x safer. No reported problems besides user error. MUCH SAFER! Ask anybody thats used it. and its easier. Just because its a long guide doent mean its hard. I just dumbed it down alot. Literally step by freaking step. http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/263674-guide-lgnpst-alternate-v6-restore-method-updated-3-22-11-a.html

I have stock Froyo on my Ally. Do these instructions tell me how to root it, or is it for people who rooted their Ally before they installed the Froyo update? All I want to do is root so I can uninstall the bloat software.

Confused just want to uninstall bloatware

Hello, I freely admit to being a noob here. I work in IT, but this is my first time rooting a phone. (never had to bother before) I ran through the adb process successfully, and now i have a "superuser" icon.

Does that mean I have root access?
What do i need to do to uninstall the bloatware that came preinstalled? I want to get this done before my provider tries to upgrade me to 2.2.2 and install some more junk.

Can someone help me?

if you used THIS guide and have the SuperUser icon then yes you have root access. im assuming you went with stock rooted, Titanium backup is GREAT for removing bloatware, can also "freeze" it with Pro version. that and the other features make buying pro well worth it. Something else to consider, VELOCITY! Like putting a turbo in your phone! but in all seriousness it will greatly improve the speed and usability of this bargain phone. and they will be including the updates that came with 2.2.2, if you like stock i wont argue just wanted to put it out there.

that link has links to most of the info you'll need. along with a list of which apps can be removed

Quick question:

I ran the fully automated magical wonder flasher and moved from an old version of Velocity to Velocity 1.0 with no problems at all (thank you for the easy to use tool!), but I still have a lingering question about the radio. The OP said that radio couldn't be flashed with fastboot? Do I need to worry about this? I had never updated the phone to any form of Froyo, OTA or otherwise, before using the wonder flasher. Honestly, I never looked to see what radio version I was starting with. Will it be correctly reported by the phone with Velocity 1.0 on it?

I'm pretty sure I chose the Velocity version.

So I downloaded/installed the Titanium backup, which demanded a version of busybox (had to download thru the titanium backup, not the market). After a little fiddling, it looks like it's going to finally allow me to delete the junk I don't need! Hooray! and thank you for the tips.

Hey guys,
I've had my Ally for a year or so. I've never rooted it or any other phone before. My main reason for rooting is to get rid of some of the stock apps. I'm getting tired of the warnings about phone storage space getting low.

I'm running 2.2.1. From reading this topic it looks like I can do this as long as I follow the guide and skip no steps. Any last words of advice before I jump in? And what should I do about backing up apps I have installed?
