My mother is sending me a used LG Ally that was previously on her verizon contract. I am unsure if this phone has been deactivated or not. I currently have Page Plus service on my LG enV2 (that happens to be junk) and I would like to keep my number and use the new LG Ally. Am I going to run into any problems doing this?
Another question... I have WiFi at my house, will I still HAVE to purchase a data package for my LG Ally to function properly when I'm not at home?
If you have any info about this, please help! Thanks!

I dont know about the switching service, i would figure it would be the same deal as your enV2 but i do know that you can turn off the data for mobile networks so id figure you could use it for calls and texts but anything that used data wouldnt. Like internet, email, but you could still use it all on wifi.
Also, this post would have been better in the ally forum not the all things root.

You should be able to use it on Pageplus without problems. It will work without data plan. You should update it to android 2.2 so you can easily turn data on and off.
I am using a Droid X on Pageplus. I have the $29.95/month plan. I get 1200 min, 2000 text, and 100 mb data. I am putting an Ally on pp for my son.
What you will want to activate the phone. Call Pageplus and they should do it for you.

Reason: Rewording something..
I misunderstood thedamon's post. He recommended that the OP change his ESN when what he really meant was simply calling to have the phone activated (I fixed his post ).
Carry on...

It should be pretty easy to bring all of the info from your env2 onto your new Ally. Take them to a Verizon store and they should be able to help you out.
Concerning data, yes you have to have the $30 data package no matter what as long as you are on the VZW network. If price is a concern for you, you can not pay for texts and instead use an app like TextPlus from the Android market. It allows you to send and receive texts using the internet.
Edit: Dang. I have never heard of Page Plus until now. They have some of the most expensive out-of-date phones I have ever seen, that must be how they offset the cost of their cheap plans.

Reason: So I could vent.
You can use any Verizon (except pre-pay) phone, including Droids on page plus cellular. You do not have to pay for a data plan. When you get the Ally, call pageplus and tell them you want the Ally put on your existing phone number.
I would never buy one of PagePlus's phones. I have used enV's, a dare, an old vx6000. I currently have my Droid X on the pp. They are an MNVO of Verizon and use the Verizon towers. The coverage area is same as Verizon.
considering switching from verizon to PP on Droid X
I want to move to PP using my Droid X, cs says the phone will work but they are not sure how the internet service will be. Anyone able to tell me if the speeds are the same, accessibility, etc....
The LG Ally was one of the first Android handsets from the Korean manufacturer to see a US release. The QWERTY slider came to Verizon in the spring of 2010 as a mid-range smartphone geared towards those looking for a solid media and messaging... Read More
