Um yea, so ally development will be ceased? I heard, since lack of testers. Thanks to the StormDroid post I have seen. I just wanted to say thank you guys/developers for making my phone such a blast, got my ally for my 16 birthday on 10-10-10 and I rooted my phone if my bro rooted his droid, I remember when I first rooted I youtube on how to do it and what not. I also remember the first time I did it, I got stuck in BootLoop. haha then next morning I woke up charged it and booted into velocity :] that was such a happy moment :') i have many memories of this community. I will be changing my phone this year, and consider my ally as a tester if possible, I want this thread to people reminisce on how they first rooted to their ally :] Thanks to everyone that helped me thru problems and what not. <3 I remember I told my mom I wanted this phone because i saw it in a magazine then on that day ^^ it came in the mail, few months later I have rooted the beast. and everyone in my school want me to root their phone haha thank you guys <3

I bricked my first ally trying to install velocity 0.2...
Did i freak? Mmmyeah did i trick verizon in getting me a replacement? Yeup
Il still be here developing till this darn thing stops ticking. To be aunest, my upgrade was like couple weeks ago but im still enjoyen this lil sucker.
Its sad to see a good team stop development but its all they can do. You can only do so much with what you have. And id say the stormdroid team did an awesome job at that. Put every aspect of the phone to its limits and put their ability to the best.
depending on to get droid razr or rezound. then making ally tester, but yea haha i remember when i got into boot loop oh man my brother with the droid kept saying BRICKED! >.< but everytime it bootloops it jsut takes time to bootloop. well i had fun on the community

First time I rooted was uneventful. I did lots of research, and picked a pretty simple method that gave me the least chance to screw up.
First rom install (velocity) went pretty smooth too.
Really couldnt afford to brick my phone so was really nervous but like I said, research what you are doing before hand and everything is smooth, especially at the late stage of development I started getting into this during.

Yes I loved my Ally but it was DEFFINATELY time to sail on. It really had no where else to go. It almost did everything I wanted but was missing some key elements..... Speed being the biggest issue.
So I got the Bionic. It Rocks and is easy to root and put stuff on.
However If money is no object I would get the Rezound. They finally got s-off and perm root. Now Team BAMF is all over it. Its going to without a doubt be the best phone on the market. Its going to be a NEXUS KILLER.
Again the bionic is a beastly thing too. just make sure to get to update .901 or it STINKS. The only down side is that it has a Locked bootloader. And really that only matters if your a guy who likes to over clock. The stock Moto Kernal for the leaked update .901 is really AWESOME!!! I am hitting at 22000mb per second Download and 10000mb per second upload.

I first rooted back when it was completely manual. And you have to use terminal and entered all those commands. Good times, learned so much about android/linux from that point forward. I then started the Ally IRC channel about a month later and i'd say that has been a big sucess. As not only have we helped tons people there we have gotten a ton of new friends .

If i had to personally pick it would be so hard for me. Cause none (expect the bionic atm i believe) have cyanogenmod support. After experiencing cyanogenmod on my Inspire i just can't see myself with a phone that doesn't have cyanogemod or some sort of aosp support.
Razr and bionic would be off my list cause of the locked bootloaders. I'm sure 2ndinit will come around for them but thats meh to me. Rezound is unlockable by htcdev. Stratosphere looks nice but im not into keyboard phones anymore.
So if i had to pick. It would be the Rezound. Although i really want the Galaxy Nexus

Amen dots, I just put cyanogen on a friends optimus and I gotta say even though his Optimus can't compete with my rezound, I'm a little jealous lol can't wait to see what cyanogen would be like on this monster of a phone.

So whats so good about the Cyanogen Mod? I tried it on the Ally but it was very incomplete. What I saw was kinda neat but nothing special. Its the only time I ever saw Netflix Run perfectly in every way on the Ally. I will say that. I have not tried the cyanogen mod for the bionic yet. I wonder if it has .901 support?

The cm settings section, ability to block app permissions, music lock screen controls, notification power widget, theme engine integration, latest android version, and honestly tons and tons of more stuff. Such as the ring lock screen and T9 dialer built into stock dialer. Cyanogenmod site has an about section. Go read it for more ideas. Basically aosp on steroids.
There's also a lot of behind the scenes stuff such as reverse engineering proprietary drivers. Which will have to be done for cm9.
Also keep in mind they currently support 80+ devices.

I rooted mine at work and I remember being scared that it wouldn't work. It seemed so overwhealming at the time, and i felt like everyone else knew what they were doing and i didn;t have a clue what a recovery was, what a rom was, etc... i ended up reading and learning and eventually giving it a shot. I remember the first time i booted to recovery and saw that menu and just being thrilled.

I finally gave up my Ally for a Galaxy Nexus, and while I'll always dig the ally for being my first android phone, the Galaxy is worlds apart. Its just endlessly more refined, quicker, etc (as expected). I love it. I can't think of anything I'd change. I haven't even rooted it yet because its fine as is.

The newer phones actually are reccomended not to root because it can cause some problems, dangers. (Razr, nexus)
hahah who started the topic to talk about phones? :P haha oh man rooting my phone first time was a thrill too. we're all family, and pushing thru to make this phone intense :] <3
My Dinc2 handles more than anything I throw at it. It's not dual core etc. like the new units but I'd still recommend this to anyone wanting an Android that works and works well.
The LG Ally was one of the first Android handsets from the Korean manufacturer to see a US release. The QWERTY slider came to Verizon in the spring of 2010 as a mid-range smartphone geared towards those looking for a solid media and messaging... Read More
