I just started using beta 13 seems pretty stable so far (it's fast!), ICS Launcher still Force Closes randomly from time to time.

Edit-And Adobe Reader wont launch

Development is going to slow a tad, I am currently working on getting a new device to work with, if anyone has an old ally they dont like let me know and I will buy it

I have an old ally, smashed digitizer, broken lcd screen. I traded digitizer with the one i use now and it sat in pieces for months, lost some screws but i just put it together (who knows if the screws are in the right places) and it started up, i could dial *228 best i could tell is the phone still works, clean esn, i dont know if maybe you have an old one thats fried but had a working screen and digitizer but if you are interested and pay shipping, its yours. If not, its free to any other dev willing to pay shipping (for a phone with NO screen the digitizer works pretty well given how badly its broken).

If someone is interested, email me. tanguay.williamj(at)gmail im not around here as much as i used to but that email will get to me right away.

I'll be following this thread closely, but I'm going to wait until this hits release status to try it. I'd love to beta test it, but my Ally is my primary device, so I'm sure you understand my hesitation. But I promise I'll run the release version when it comes out.

Again I am waiting to finish this until the Velocity Development Team receives an Ally to work with.

Edit
If someone has a device they could loan for a few weeks - months that would work also

Edit Edit
i have a solution on its way, thanks guys!

I'm liking what I'm hearing about this beta. The only thing keeping me from flashing is the ICS Launcher FCing. Already sounds great, though might flash once it's out of beta.

To everyone out there who is hesitant on flashing a beta, I would do it. My Ally is my primary device and I flashed Velocity 1.2.2 and it's soooo much better than most ROMs available at this time. User friendly, fast, great battery, smooth, reliable. Use it to help these devs out and find any bugs that they can fix so when it does come out in full it will be even better!! I flashed beta 13 and it's amazing. Do it.

I would also like to bring up the fact a nandroid backup is an exact image of your devices state at the time of creation, much like a Norton Ghost image. If you ever want to revert back its as easy as a restore (you dont even need to wipe before restoring since it rewrites all partitions!)

I still use nandroids just to hop between roms, I have over 10 backups on my incredible 2 of different roms, if I want to switch from CM to MIUI, I just restore the miui backup, it is much faster than flashing then going through the process of installing and configuring applications.

Good luck, I should have a device soon so let the games begin!

PS. I changed servers for savoxis.com, the web portal isnt there anymore (not like anyone used it) and I replaced it with just the files that where hosted. Since the script was on the same server it has been moved aswell so there may be some complications with online content until I get something to test it with. Thanks for your patience.

Sure, ok you talked me into flashing it. It's pretty darn snappy. I only use it on wifi w/ GrooveIP, so I can make calls and all and that works well (for me anyway). I also installed the flash 10.3 APK that was provided by rgocal and that works too. I do get the force-close issue, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. The only thing that I don't really like is that it's impossible to read the pull down notification thing with the current color system.
BTW, anyone know how to set up ADB for the ally with ubuntu? Thanks

For the FCing, I highly recommend using ADW Launcher Ex because it does offer the ability to put themes on it and there is an ICS Theme you can use to keep that ICS look. That's what I did and the ROM looks even better than ever.

Okay, I'm just interested enough that it would take even less of an argument to convince me. One question, though. Can anyone speak to whether I absolutely need to delete my app data prior to flashing? Should I make sure all of them are happily backed up by Titanium and just reinstall post-flash, or can I leave them around and just have them ready to go?

I have given up on trying to retain application data. I have tried using titanium, manually backing up, I have written scripts. I have talked with other devs, I have NEVER found a solution that works 100% there are ALWAYS problems when yuou try and restore application data from one rom to another. Because of this I NEVER try to retain this data personally this is not an issue anymore as I dont play games, and games are really the only apps I have found that have app data that cant be reentered in a few minutes

...Just my .02, if you like your data try what you want, you will get no troubleshooting assistance from me however.

Going to refine theme today
I have seen the notification pulldowns are an issue. Can anyone else provide any information on any other theme bugs?

The only other bug I see is that when I try flashing a certain splash screen it won't change anything at all.

Honestly, I suppose this would be a great opportunity to get rid of the games I don't even play anymore. I really use this this thing very little for entertainment - videos here and there and music when I forget my iPod, mostly.

I thought I'd mention another thing I noticed. Although the GPS is really snappy, it seems less accurate than the previous version of velocity. Personally, I'd rather have accuracy than speed, but that's just me.

lol yeah. A few days ago i went to use the Navigation app to get to some place around Pittsburgh and it said i was somewhere in South Carolina. maybe it was some freak thing.

Didn't have time to test this, look at the time this was posted, lol.

This SHOULD fix the notification dropdown text AND give you a nice blue clock.
Flash this UNSIGNED zip and tell me how it goes

Theme Refinement 1.1

(I recommend a nandroid)

So, I flashed Beta 13 last night and I'm really enjoying it so far. Here's my first report, beginning with the compliments:

It's blazing fast, stable as a boulder, and just generally awesome. At the default OC, it's incredibly fast just after first boot. Of course, after installing a bunch of apps and decking out my home screens with widgets and whatnot, it needed a little boost, so I knocked it up a notch to 748. I kid you not - my performance at 748MHz on 1.2.2 is comparable (even according to Quadrants, as I recall) to 1.2.1 at 806. That being said, I of course tested higher OC, up to 787MHz, and it works flawlessly, though is currently not necessary. Finally, the top reason I'll be keeping this ROM on my phone and updating to release ASAP: comparatively massive amounts of internal storage allow me to keep all my apps on the phone itself. Which is nice, because my SD likes to randomly unmount itself (not a bug with Velocity, as it happens no matter what ROM I use).

Now, my experience (or lack thereof) with some of the known issues:

I didn't have any ICS launcher FCs, but then I didn't use it for very long before switching to Go Launcher anyway (I'm a bit of a shameless fanboy). I haven't needed to use Adobe Reader yet, but I'll test it later and let you know how/if it works. I started up Navigation just to see if it could get a proper location for me, in light of earlier reports. It didn't seem to have any problems. That being said, I don't ever use Maps, so I just ended up uninstalling it shortly thereafter.

Finally, new bugs:

So much awesomeness is currently emanating from my Ally that I think I honestly may die of a blown mind.

I decided to flash Beta 13 (now with theme refinement 1.1) and I am loving it. Just like everyone else I am getting the force closes with the the ICS launcher so no surprise there. Its wicked fast and stable at higher clock speeds than previous versions which is awesome. Kudos Savoxis, great enchantments and I'm pleasantly surprised that you were able to squeeze even more power out of this device. My only qualm is the GPS accuracy, I'm a guy that relies on the navigation app to to save my #$% when I'm in a pinch, so when I need it, I really need it. I tried using maps with and without the GPS status app running but got the same inaccurate results. Thanks again for all your efforts and Keep up the good work!

edit: Also thanks to j2cool for his theming efforts!

Beta 14 will be live in a few minutes, basically just j2s theme patch built in, I tried a quick fix for reader, and flash player 10.3 but both are not working, expect a 15 soon

So those of us running beta 13 could just flash the theme update and be good to go until 15?

Sounds like it. Might as well just flash 14 over 13 without data wipe
Might have stability increases or other under the hood stuff.

Heh, make it too much stabler and it'll refute Quantum theory or something.

Edit: I think it's been refuted.

Besides the currently unsolved issues with Adobe products, I've yet to notice any bugs. Also, I think it actually got faster. Finally, I want to report on the success of the installation method I used. I simply deleted /system, /cache, and Dalvik-cache, then flashed Beta 14, resulting in a flawless update while still retaining all my apps and data.

Adobe Reader works fine for me if I uninstall and reinstall it, other then that just wish the scripts would work...don't care much for the Velocity bootup. Thank you very much for your hard work and your time.

Downloading as I type this. . .sounds like it could already be released as official if not for what I'm hearing about the ICS Launcher FCing all the time. Ohwell. I love using ADW Launcher anyways.

Gonna edit with my first experience with it once I flash tomorrow morning.

EDIT
- Like rgocal, first boot was incredibly fast
- Very snappy on 729, even faster with 787 and ondemand governor
- No FCs with ICS Launcher so far, but already went straight for ADW with the ICS theme in place of AnderWeb's Theme One.
- The theme is great, j2. Looks so awesome, my eyes melted because they couldn't take in the awesomeness. All kidding aside, this is very nice, combined with the ICS theme for ADW.

Might make me reconsider Bionix, or I might just nand this and Bionix and jump between both if I feel like using one over the other. I might just stick with Velocity, though.

And Pierreround's method of flashing without wiping the /data works, all my apps retained the same settings.

For a beta, this is actually pretty slick (no pun intended, savoxis). This feels like an official release already.

Just wondering if it would be to late at this point to remove all but the stock Launcher and let everyone choose what launcher they want to use?

Quadrant (Quadrant Standard) is a benchmark assessment app that assesses the performance of your phone on more levels than apps like NeoCore or Electopia. Uber Quadrant, when enabled, "tricks" the app into thinking your phone has better performance than it actually does. Like the toast popup that comes on the screen after you click it says, it's just for fun.

This theme fix is not meant to correct the launcher. It just changing the launcher theme with making the clock blue and fixing the color of the text in the drop down notifications bar. If I'm wrong someone may correct me please.

Hi, folks.

I rooted my Ally for the first time this weekend and loaded the beta 14 last night. Other than the known issues (calendar, ICS Launcher) I've found the phone to be very responsive.

So just a quick note to say there's another tester available and thanks to everyone working on this project and those that have made all the posts and guides about rooting and loading ROMs. The forums have been very useful!

I updated tonight too. Running ADW Launcher w/ ICS theme...everything looks great and if nothing else, I love having the numbers back on the status bar battery gauge. :-)

Ran GPS w/ GPS Status, Google Maps, and Google Nav this morning. It locked on fast and tight, so no problems there for me.

I flashed Beta 13 with the Theme Update and it is great

This is what I have noticed:
Adobe Reader - Would not open, I uninstaller and then reinstalled from Market and it works now
Calendar Does not display correctly, It does sync with Exchange as a widget is pulling the data fine
ICS Launcher Force Closes when I unlock the phone, I switch to Go Launcher for now
Exchange Email Sync works fine
Battery life is great
Very Fast

Thanks for all of the work that has gone into this ROM, Looking forward to the next release.

Flashed beta 14 the other night and its great! Found a couple bugs though.

The wifi will sometimes disconnect when the phone is inactive and not reconnect until I turn wifi off and then on again.

The phone will also come out of vibrate mode by itself sometimes.

I havent seen any other problems as of yet. Its a great rom that im sure will be even better once its out of beta. Thank you so much for your time and effort into making this.

The wifi disconnect isn't a bug, its a feature. It disables it while the phone is sleeping. To fix this, go to settings, Wi-Fi and networks, wifi, menu>advanced, wifi sleep policy, and turn it to never.
