Default Got rid of my KFHD today

I got tired of not being able to do anything, at least easily. I can't get google apps. I can't get play store. I can't get a real keyboard. I can't use a grown up launcher.

I rooted it, I installed other stuff, it didn't seem to work well that way.

So I took it back, and got a Nexus 7. The Nexus is superior in every way. Thinner, so I can hold it in one hand more easily. Noticably lighter. Faster web in my opinion.

And as for the "two speaker Dolby fire" vs. the mono nexus... I notice no discernable difference. If anything, the Nexus sounds better.

And I can install and friggin thing I want, no problem, no sideloads, no root necessary.

I want a device that lets me do what I want, not tells me what I can and can't do. That apparently rules Amazon out.

Different strokes for different folks. You made a good choice if you got the 16 GB or larger Nex7. Enjoy your newfound freedom.

I hear you. I'm an Amazon person, but don't think I can keep it. It really irritates me because I love the screen and size and hate to go up to a 10".

The 7s are just too small fr me as I use it for a lot of movies.

Different horses for different courses...

At least you tried it and made up your own decision!

I'm happy to report that I think I'm going to keep my Fire. I'm starting to get used to working with it, although I don't think I'll be using it as much as my previous tablet.

This is my first tablet. I could never justify why I needed one. Finally I just bought one.

I am beginning to love it now that I have learned how to "side-load" apps. I love the connection to Amazon utilizing my prime membership. Unlimited streaming, borrowing of books, and fast shipping rocks.

The one con is that, like all android users, I would love to have more customization. But I am learning that it is not too bad adjusting some of my ways to fit Amazon's expectations.

I had a Galaxy S3 and decided to make the plunge to the Note 2 so that if my Fire won't handle something, I can just use my phone.

Holydoc - Can you let us know which apps were critical to you, in enjoying/using your KF? On my DroidX, I use very few apps regularly - Weatherbug, My Tracks, Google maps, and the MP3 player. But the DroidX is too small for me to use as an email tool, or to use as a reader. I want a larger screen, but I'm teetering between the KF 8.9, the Nexus 7, and the Asus Transformer 700 (which is a 10.1 screen). There are advantages/disadvantages to each of these, so I'm leaning heavily on trying the KF 8.9 if I can live with just a few sideloaded apps.

Bill,

Let me mention, I have hundreds of apps on my phone. It is not the same on my KFHD. The reason is that I am thoroughly enjoying the KFHD for the books, magazines, web browsing, and movies. It is amazing for these items. As for apps, these are the ones I use on the KFHD:

AccuWeather - Because I check the weather
Audobon Birds (sideloaded) - I am a bird watcher and this app is fantastic
Chef Tap - Captures recipes off the web and presents them in an easy format to use while cooking
Dolphin Browser (sideloaded) - SILK just kept crashing. Dophin is very stable
Dropbox (sideloaded) - All my pictures, docs, etc, available
USA Today - Excellent tablet news app
Wikinvest - keep up with my investments

There are lots of others such as Quickoffice Pro, Directv, Pandora, Printershare, Flixster,Flash, etc.

The tablet is so convenient. Just leave it on the coffee table and open it up for immediate access to the web, apps, news, and weather. All for a minor expense.
