Default Apps you like to see on the Kindle Fire

What apps do you like to see on the Kindle Fire?

I mainly created this thread to report the I just got a tweet from OliveTree saying that their Kindle Fire real arrive at there offices tomorrow and thought to make it a general thread.

OliveTree BibleReader is one of my top apps I like to see on the Kindle Fire and looks like OliveTree will port it over.

Other apps I like to see are Weight Watchers Mobile, Mahjong and Friends and Rfeal Deal Slots. I also like to see Mint, Bank of America, Fidelity, Schwab, SunTrust, Discover, and Astrid.

Edit: I'm assuming that Dropbox, Allrecipes, and Evernote will all be on the Kindle Fire.

I would like to see some of the basic apps such as Pandora, Daily Bible, Dolphin Browser, Netflix, and a Calendar.. while I know some of those will be there, I think those are the basics for me!

Tasker! But, I don't think that Tasker's developer Pent would agree to Amazon's terms. And, I don't think the Kindle Fire has enough features to make Tasker do all the things it does.

Hmm.
1. Pulse, if only so I could keep all my devices sync'd
2. Overdrive. Libraries are kinda contrary to the idea of the device, but the libraries around here actually have a lot available there.
3. A good calendar program, as per Business Calendar Pro
4. ConnectBot
5. The Tricorder app. RIP.

I didn't see it in the Amazon market from within the Fire. I was confused also and just sideloaded the new honeycomb version.

Here's what comes loaded on it (just got the Fire today):
IMDB, Gallery, Audible, QuickOffice, Pulse, Amazon, Contacts. It shows "Facebook" in the apps menu, but it's really just a browser bookmark. It has download shortcuts for Pandora, ESPN Scoreboard, Weather Channel, Words with Friends, and Comics.

I find myself swyping second-naturedly before I remember there is no swype. This is going to take a LOT of getting used to. I have to remember to tap the word suggestion or space after every word, where with swype, I could just continue if the suggested word was correct. It's much quicker for me to slide from key to key than to poke individual keys as well.

Personally I REALLY need swiftkey. I just sent them a note asking them to upload to amazon market.

Their keyboard will become standard technology for all virtual keyboards in mu opinion.

Did you know that SwiftKey and SwiftKey X have not only been in the Amazon Appstore for a long time, but were even featured as daily free apps?

They're in the Amazon Appstore, but they show as not being available for installation on the Fire. There are a number of apps like that; not all apps in Amazon's store are available for the Fire.
That doesn't mean you can't sideload it and see if it works - I've tried a few apps and they worked, although I heard someone loaded Gmail and it just crashes..

Nope I had no idea.

I actually didn't know that some apps were turned off for the fire.

It would be nice in the next update to have access to alternative keyboards.

I tried also. It didn't work.

Not that big of a deal but a better keyboard would be cool.

Im sure that will be in future updates anyway.

Other than that the product is perfect for my needs, i NEVER would have purchased a tablet as I generally think they are useless. but the price and size of this thing somehow make it useful to me.

The apps I was most looking forward to when I ordered it were the Crunchyroll app and other video apps like Netflix. What I would like to see is an app that will read DRMed epub files. I have several that I got for my Sony Reader and it doesn't look like Amazon supports any 3rd party readers, though that is not surprising... Does anybody know if you can sideload the Sony Reader app successfully?

Someone side-loaded the Nook app. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to with the Sony Reader app. But are you sure that the Kindle can't read the file? DRM wouldn't be the issue, I think.

Sony Reader uses epub with standard Adobe DRM, which is not supported by Kindle. Sony Reader, Aldiko, BlueFire, and several other apps can read them. I found out that Aldiko and BlueFire have been tested by one reviewer and they worked fine, I just don't have access to an APK file for any of them, as I don't have another Android device to grab them from...

I'd like to see Pioneer's iControl app. I sideloaded it, but it's a bit jacked up and ugly. i.e. not built for screen size. also, i can't gmote to work correctly. I did sideload it, but it's a bit wonky

how much more zoom would you want? It seems to zoom in past point of usefulness.

I would like to see netflix do a better job with their app. Very, very choppy at times. Not sure why that is, but I know they can do better. Well I think they can do better, but with netflix of recent we just never know. Netflix was one of the reason I was so excited about the Fire. Netflix has been a let down thus far.

Not on mine. It only zooms maybe 130% of original on mine, and the original is very small.

For example if I go to the OWA website on my phone, the text is more readable than on phone than on my Fire. Same with my Yahoo mail and My Yahoo, and my power company's website.

Hi, I'm Jason, the Project Manager at Bluefire. This topic came up today in a meeting and we are looking at making an APK available for installation on the Fire. We know there's a lot of demand for our app, especially for library fulfillments, and we're really interested in making an APK available for use on the Fire. We're going to look into getting this set up. Please keep an eye on our blog. We'll post information on this process once we get all the pieces ironed out and are able to fully test implementation.

The KF is not a quote unquote Android Tablet. It is a Android based eReader.
Because it is Andorid based it can run many Android apps but not all and because the reader is missing a great many bits of hardware normally found on a Android Tablet there are many things that just will not work. Google maps for one, Anything that requires a camera, Any GPS related apps will not work because of the lack of GPS hardware. I don't think it has a mic.
Go here and scroll down to the list, click on the list and look in the first column. Amazon's Kindle Fire Tablet vs. the Competition: Spec Showdown | PCWorld

It has no 3G capability.
No front or back camera
No expandable memory slot (microSD) Google maps will take a huge amount of your SSD and still not be usable.
No BlueTooth or HDMI
No USB or GPS

And only 8 gigs of SSD part of which is used by the OS/ROM

Google maps can use your WiFi location to find you with your Kindle Fire. There is also a TetherGPS app that will let you tether the GPS from a device that you are using a wireless tether through which would give you a 7" screen for navigation. You can see me briefly using Google Maps (WiFi) in this video:

Neither do paper maps but I know how to use them. It is nice to have a map app available on KF for those times when you don't have that paper map handy but your KF is there. GPS is never required for maps - GPS is required for navigation assistance. I have sideloaded MapQuest on my Kindle Fire with no problems.

We're going to look into getting this set up. Please keep an eye on our blog. We'll post information on this process once we get all the pieces ironed out and are able to fully test implementation.
Thanks! I will sideload it and try it out!

I sideloaded aldiko a while back and it works fine. I don't recall where I got the APK, but I think I had to search for it, though they did have an e-mail option on their site, it didn't work back when I tried it. BlueFire has their APK available for download from the blog above...
