Okay, so I finally got around to deregistering and reregistering.
Basically, it is kind of the worst of both worlds--it keeps the apps you installed, even keeps them running, but pretty much every one then tells you that you don't "own" the app. (Even if it was free.) The best was Enhanced E-Mail, still running and downloading the e-mail from my own account, but then trying to open it would give the "you don't own this" error.
So I ended up uninstalling everything and redownloading.
Now, Netflix kept working, but I don't want Mom to have access to my account. :-) And I couldn't find any way to log out of the Netflix app. So I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it.
It could be different for sideloaded apps--these were all from the Amazon App Store.
But it didn't really take very long, and it certainly wasn't difficult to do.
(Kind of irked that you still need a credit card on an Amazon account even when you're downloading free apps.)
