Default Netflix just plain sucks on the fire

ok so I know that this problem is not just something that I am dealing with, but a lot of fire owners are dealing with. Netflix lag so bad most of the time. I have tried everything like closing all other apps before trying to use it, but nothing works. The audio is off as well. I would not think that the device lacks the power to run Netflix cause is handles the Amazon movies streaming just fine. I would just like to see if everyone is having this problem, and is there some kind of fix for it. One of the appealing things about the fire was netflix, but man they sure have not delivered.

Fire is still new so I'm sure a much needed update will be available soon for apps and the fire itself.

So you have had no issues with it being choppy at points. It seems to be really bad when I watch Mad Men. I dont think it would be my internet because nothing else seems to have a problem running netflix. I still really like the fire, but I would really like to see an update. Just go look at the reviews in the amazon app store of the netflix app.

I just watched an episode of America dad and had no issue whatsoever, I am not a heavy User, but based on what I have seen, it works fine. Perhaps with a lot of use I might encounter said problems??

Netflix is like the weather at my house. I have an ethernet connection from my tivo to my router and get 25MB through comcast on speedtest... but still about every ten days I'll have laggy netflix for a few hours. That's just the way it is. No problems yet with nflix on the fire. If I do get a problem I won't necesarily look to the tablet first. Sometimes netflix is just choppy. Occam's razor tells me it's usually on their end, not mine.

a few minor similar issues here with Amazon Instant Video. Every now and then it will stop and display "Your video is loading"

I have at&t dsl. My upload speeds on speedtest.net are bad, but I hardly ever have problems with netflix on my computer. I feel like it is a problem with netlfix not with the fire. I even use xbox live on the DSL connection and never have problems. I don't seem to be the only one that this is happening to either. I just maybe the only one on this forum that is having this problem. The reviews on the app are not overwhelming good. I just expected better from netflix after this was part of the hype that Amazon used for selling the fire. Seems like netflix would not want to drop the ball. I don't know it could all be on my internet connection, but I have never had problems before.

I watched netflix while tethered to my phone for 3 hours last night so other than the lowered quality due to going through my cell phone I thought netflix handled everything just the same as on my ipad through its 3g connection.

Ok so I have still been playing with netflix app on my fire, and I found something that I just don't understand. Ok so I have been watching a lot of mad men on netflix which is what has been giving me the most trouble with choppy video. I try another Tv show Friday Night Lights and it was choppy as well. The really crazy thing is all the movies that I have watched have been fine. I don't understand why because would a movie not be a bigger file and need more bandwidth to run then a Tv show? If there is someone that could explain this to me that would be awesome. Also if you have had this problem and found a fix that would be awesome as well. Thanks in advance for the help.

The only difference in bandwidth MIGHT be if it were HD vs Widescreen or something like that.

The encoding could affect bandwidth as well if it is different for different content.

Ok and there would be no way to not make Mad Men in SD would there. What I can't seem to understand is why I can run Mad Men perfectly on my macbook with no problems, but have all these problems on the fire. I think I am going to try call amazon or netflix customer support and see what kind of crap they feed me.

My Internet speed is slow, but I can play on xbox live and I know that needs way more bandwidth.

I'm not saying that's it, I don't know the answer, I'm just trying to answer your question and make suggestions. I suspect it's something to do with your wi-fi. Have your tried it anywhere else?

Hell, maybe you've got a defective Fire I don't know, but if Amazon videos work and Netflix doesn't something it different in what the apps are doing. And certainly the Netflix on your PC is totally different code than the app in the fire.

Others are saying theirs works fine so it's either something with your setup (wifi, bandwidth etc.) or something's wrong with your Fire. Call Amazon, I'm sure they will try to help.

Sorry man I really was not trying to be a jerk at all. I was running with what you were saying. It just is very weird to me that it is happing. The reviewers on the amazon app store seem to be having some of the same problems, so would that many fires have issues? I feel like if the bandwidth is good enough for a computer it would be good enough for a fire, but I don't know much about that so I have no idea. Thanks again for your suggestion, and again I am sorry I did not mean to sound like a jerk.

So I called Amazon and ask about Netflix being choppy and they said that it was a problem on Netflix end on the coding of the app and they were working on it. I guess for all of you that the app is working for it must only effect some things. The good news thought is they are working on a fix.

Does anyone have the issue and found a fix for it? I called both Amazon and Netflix, and Amazon said it netflix that had the wrong code in the app. I would think if it was just the wrong code it would be fix by now. When I called Netflix they had not date of when it might be fixed. The only thing the guy said was to check the updates on the app. I have doing that daily for the last 2 weeks. Some how I think both Amazon and netflix are to blame.

I have a KF and the video gets choppy as well. My wifi connection is excellent and my speed is 35/35mbps. Everything else plays netflix perfectly (even my phone), but the KF is hit or miss. Sometimes if I remove an app, it gets better.

Here's a video: Netflix choppy on kindle fire - YouTube. Is this like everyone else with the issue?

It seems the app itself is just getting bogged down, as everything else seems snappy. Hulu plays perfectly. It's just netflix. I've tried a factory reset, an older version of the app, reboots, clearing data/cache/force-stop, etc. Nothing. Even version 1.8 didnt help.

What other apps do you have running in the background? Might need to clear up some memory. I don't have much issue with netflix and if I do a reboot fixes it.

Thanks. Clearing background processes does usually fix it.

What sucks is, if I remove all but a couple apps, it works pretty well, but then bogs down when I add more stuff. What's annoying is, my little droid phone, with tons of apps installed, runs netflix perfectly.

It makes the device seem so crippled, when it shouldn't be.

I've yet to have a problem with Netfix, and my girlfriend and I use it just about daily. I would run a speed test to see what you're getting in terms of bandwidth.

My speed on the KF is about 18mbps+ both ways. How many apps do you have installed on yours? Like I mentioned earlier, if I install a lot of apps on it, it bogs down when playing netflix. When I remove them, it plays quite a bit better.

If I go into Applications and bring up "All Applications", I count 130 apps. Of course, that's counting stuff like "Account and Sync Setting", "Amazon Device Client Platform", "Certificate Installer", etc.. Bringing up "Third Party Applications", I have 79 total. I'd say that's still a good number.

I can't understand why I still have this issue and don't get how others say they don't have it.

It goes away if I reboot the kindle. Do you just turn the screen off or do you turn off and on when being used? Thanks.
