Here's a little tip I learned in my Pocket PC days. If you're going to use wired headphones it's a good idea to get an l-shaped adapter for the plug. This cuts down the possibility of snagging the cord causing pin separation inside your headphone jack. I don't think that's what's happening with Sovby's device but I thought I'd just throw this out there seeing as we're talking about headphones not working properly. Pins separated in the headphone jack can cause the same effect described by him.
