I got it from the market way before the app store existed. If you want to lock apps, it is the best! I highly recommend getting from the market instead of Amazon though, once I learned how amazon screws developers, I refuse to get anything from them and have deleted the amazon app store from my phone.
How does Amazon screw devs?

* Lengthy review times of anywhere up to 2 weeks (I’ve lost count of the amount of emails from people asking why our Google Market app is newer)
* Amazon gets to set the price of your app to whatever they want, without any input from you, or even the chance to reject their price
* Amazon re-writes your description, and in ours they even made up things like ‘add up to 100 podcasts’. No idea where on earth they got that number from
* Amazon don’t provide error reports like Google do making it hard to fix errors [sic]
* They don’t yet support Google’s new multiple APK initiative
* Amazon pays far later than Google does, and to date we haven’t received any cheques from them, even though we are listed as being ‘payed’
* US Only
* Much less real-time sales information than Google
* Update: (and this one surprised us) you can’t remove apps from their store! You have to ask them for permission via an email. Every other store lets you remove apps from sale.

Ewww. I wasn't aware of this. That's crappy of them. Well, I guess now I'll use the app store as a tester if there is no free trial and then I'll buy from the market. Thanks for the info. I know the devs work hard on their stuff and if I enjoy the product I have no problem supporting them.
So how does Amazon get the apps in the first place? And can a developer refuse to have their asp on there or is it just there id its on the Android market anyone know?

Developers sign up with them of course, lol. Amazon can't have an app in their store without the Dev's consent (signed contract).

That really sucks for that developer, but color me skeptical.
If this were the case across the board, would any developers be putting their apps in the Amazon app store? I don't doubt that some may have had bad experiences, but I haven't seen widespread reports of these kinds of problems. This is what, two devs?
They say they haven't received a dime from Amazon for one single sale. If that were how Amazon were really conducting business, how many apps would currently be in the Amazon appstore? It sounds to me like there may be other variables at play here that were not disclosed, or that this is someone with an axe to grind. The store's been open six months now--if they weren't remitting payment to the developers, they'd all have left.
That said, this isn't to defend the Amazon appstore--I am not a fan, and largely stopped using it when I noticed that one of my apps was more than 2 months behind the official market version (that, and I *hate* that I can't remove apps from the list.) I've taken advantage of a few FAOTDs to try things out, but if I'm going to buy an app, I go to the official store.
But I wouldn't take one or two isolated complaints as gospel--there are likely other issues between Amazon and the dev in those cases that may be coloring the reports.
In the interest of staying on topic, however... some apps that are go-to essentials for me:
Google Maps & Nav
Aldiko reader
Root Explorer
CamScanner

you know i would have to agree with you 100% there because the amazon has got to be one of the biggest 3rd party app providers out there by now and if this was true for a lot of developers they wouldent have put there apps in the store ... Makes me Think

I have HTC DHD and what really improved my Android experience is SwiftKey X, the default keyboard was killing me! I also recently discovered GO Launcher X and now I'm having even more fun. And as a photography fan I love Little Photo.
I love the layout. Also willing to buy, but can't get the Prediction to work. Heck, I can't even find the area in setting's for Prediction. LOL Anyone care to weigh in? TIA

Personally i am using VoIP service on my mobile phone and for me all those apps which run my service on my mobile are my favorite . After trying a lot of apps for mobile VoIP i finally tried Sipdroid for Axvoice and it finally worked because no other app was working properly.
This is gonna sound mundane but for me, it's Dropbox. 'Cos I usually store a ton of stuff and it'd suck to lose it all. I've tried Spideroak before but that was just too slow.
Of course, I've got other favourite apps but they've all been posted in this thread. :P
All Go! apps - Go SMS, the best sms app. Go launcher the most... umm... advanced launcher(a lot to customize, maybe more than ADW). Go Contacts/Go Dialer, just better than any that i've tried this far. Yes, they are all FREE!
Dolphin Browser - Excellent browser. Gestures and add-ons support is enough, but there are a lot other cool stuff out there!
Evernote - I can take easily and quickly some notes and store them into a cloud! Nice UI too.
Titanium Backup - Couldn't live without it! No need to download all the apps again after flashing another rom. Of course it backups/restores data too.(there are couple of other apps like this, but i love TB he most!)
Tapatalk - I can browse some forums. It only supports a few forums that I use, and its so much easier to use Tpatalk than browser.
For me, Dolphin resembles a desktop browser more so than any browser I tried. But ultimately an app ~ any app! ~ is only as good as you, the user, like it. Try Dolphin and judge for yourself; that's what I did.
I just tried Dolphin HD since I haven't tried any new browsers lately. Really don't like it. Lets you change text size, but seems to only work on web pages, not any of the main browser windows (like bookmarks, and links). Too difficult to navigate (IMO). I'm sticking with Boat Browser.

Did anyone ever use Flash Game Player? I just came across Flash Game Box, sine FGP was removed from the market. Amazing app allows you to place keyboard input keys on the screen allowing you to play flash games flawlessly. I know Kongregate has an app, but armor games does not unfortunately. Plus they favor Iphones for some strange, unbelievable reason. So if playing flash games, downloaded or online is your thing check out Flash Game Box!
Also My Tracks has been ridiculously informative when wanting to know information about my hiking, bicycling, running, you name it!
The my HTC widget clock broke. No way im factory resetting this phone again. Had to once because market and gmail cease functioning. So I got Alarm Clock Plus, far better than the default alarm system. I also like how it acts as a clock on your phone when plugged in at night. You can dim it down to nothing or keep it bright, or do away with it.
Earthquake alert keeps me updated to worldwide earthquakes everyday. Japan gets smacked with like 5 5.0's every damn day. Has that always been the case? Crazy. Also Earthquake Alerter Beta can, and will, alert you to earthquakes in your designated radius. Simply amazing.
ScannerRadio came in EXTREMELY handy the other night. Combine with Trapster for full effect, Nuff said. As did Restroom Finder. For those, I cant hold it moments.
Not really an app but I'm really liking Google Chrome to Phone.
Sitting at your PC, you can send links, pics, web pages and copied text to your phone with one click in the browser and have them open automatically in the phone.
It's so convenient to browse the icon thread over at Xda forum, for example, and send the icon packs to my phone.
Chrome is da bomb! I like the text sizes. Cause I'm old! LOL Dolphin is good too, but the text doesn't always render right, on larger text. But both are really good.
Any recommendations for UK public footpaths - I hear the official OS app is poor and drains your battery like nobody's business!
I've been put off by the reviews of all the unofficial ones. Their requirement for a signal is also an issue. However I'd also be interested in any feedback on these sorts of apps.
The maps aren't cheap, but are on a par with other navigational software's maps (eg I think they're cheaper than garmin gps maps). There may be other companies out there who provide them, but I'd expect the maps to be a similar price, so it could come down to software performance. The best bit is that the map is on your sdcard (hence the price).
Big fan of TuneIn, even with the ads. I have an FM transmitter I hook to the phone so I can listen to stations from all over the world in the car. It found nearly all the local stations (except one) and has a pretty extensive list of stations from all over the world. I even spent the 99¢ for the paid version so I can get the recording feature and to get rid of the ads. The only warning about the recordings is that you have to listen from start to finish.
The nice thing is that you can look at it online via their website to see what stations are out there.

Favorite apps?
1. The GO lineup. I use GO Contacts, GO Launcher, GO SMS, GO Keyboard and GO weather.
2. SugarSync and DropBox. Seriously these are very convenient.
3. I like Dolphin, went away from it back to Opera when I couldnt find out how to sync/send my Chrome bookmarks to it, until I did, and now I'm back to Dolphin. That's the one thing Opera has better, native Sync to Opera on PC. I had to go a bit more roundabout way to send the bookmarks to Dolphin though. Its always been interface (Dolphin) vs sync (Opera).

No, it's not stalking at all, it's the sign of a good parent taking responsibility for their children.
I'm not trying to change the subject, but children don't have a right to privacy, especially from their parents, until they reach the ripe age of 18.
Either way, if I had a child old enough for a phone, that would be one requirement.
When your kids are old enough to leave the house and not have mommy and daddy tracking their every move, you will be a wreck.
Part of letting your kids go out and play in the neighborhood is to get you used to being separate from them. Having a phone to call you if they need something is not enough? In summers when I was a pre-teen, I would leave at 9am and come back at 6pm. My parents weren't bad parents...that is just how it worked with kids then.
People wonder why kids stay at home until they are 30 now. Well part of the problem is they never had the safety net removed from underneath them, and the parents are too used to holding the net.
As for apps:
K-9 Mail
Heaven's Above
Iridium Flares
Space Junk
Raindar
Weathergeek Pro
Weatherpro
Waze
I thought I'd throw in a really really good app I've come across. If you mess with electronics as a hobby, or are perhaps a student in electronics engineering like myself. Electro Droid is by far a must have! It's great for a quick reference doing a lab in class, or even making your own cables up for just about anything.
I quite like OS Maps (uk). It shows the landranger maps for walking (highways, terrain, grid ref etc...) then zooms down to street maps. I've been bought up on OS maps so this is great. All I need now is some back pack mounted solar charging & could be out all day with it

Bing online mapping has OS - haven't tried their app yet, but looks to have mapping so fingers crossed...

Couldn't find an official one on market - which isn't a surprise. The two Bing ones I did try seemed not to have OS maps. I may have missed them or they may have been added since - this was a little while ago.
Anyway as reception is so patchy on the hill, I need cached OS maps, and I've not found one yet that does (there may be something in the usage license that prevents that, judging by the cost of the download maps).
