Quick question - doesn't Locale absolutely hammer your battery if you need GPS on all the time for it to work? Or am I missing something?
Your "situations" in Locale don't all have to be based on GPS information so it doesn't always have to be on. You can base situations on time of day (8am-5pm for example) or based on calendar events (for meetings when you want to silence all sounds) ... even on contacts. I actually haven't used the GPS location for dictating my situations because the other functionality is so capable.
GDE home app is, IMO, one of the best, if not the best home alternative app out there. When I say the best I mean it with regards to the smoothness and stability of it. Way more stable than any other home app.
Thank you very much wingstrings, i really appreciate your comment. I'm trying to put everything I have into this project. Hopefully like you said, people will recognize it as a legitimate source for great rated apps and its reputation will define it.
Out of all the apps I downloaded (God knows how many hours of sleep I've been losing playing around with that phone), I found CardioTrainer one of the most impressive programs on the Android. The current recession has left a bit of a dent in my wallet, and I wasn't really interested in paying for any applications (Buying the G1 was my self-made promise not to spend any more money this year on non-essentials), so CT being free made it a lot easier for me to dl and use.
Of course, just being free wouldn't be enough to make me like a program, but it at least allowed me to try it. Also, being a fit freak, I installed the program and took it for a spin. Its pretty cool in that it utilizes GPS technology and Google Maps in order to pinpoint exactly where I am running. It's also got voice commands, a race against yourself option (which I find probably the most useful part of the app), and best of all, its all in my phone so I don't have to drag a crapload of hardware around with me. When I'm done with my run, I can then check out my stats and route which is uploaded on their website, www.worksmartlabs.com/cardiotrainer/about.php
Doesn't " My Tracks" by Google do this very same thing? If not what is different?
I agree.. frequent updates, allows texting to groups, recent and whole contacts list as you browse.
Many other tweaks too... like changing freq and color of led etc.
voice to text.
Also allow long texts and puts in 160 character clumps and then sends whole message seamlessly.
Very Cool App indeed.....just wish they would up the limit size on sending audio files. I have been able to send audio files with every phone I have ever had and it's very discouraging to say the least. If they can't do it then I just hope this alledged Dec. 11th update will fix this issue.

haven't tried My tracks yet.. just installed "a2b" last night.. you will need the accompanying app called "radar" to get the radar feature to work...
but its pretty stinking cool.. especially the radar. I sat my location on my living room couch and went walking and then driving and now that I'm at work today.. it still works!
Tells me exactly how many feet, yards, or miles I am from my location.
I can view a satellite "not up to date" or maps and it has a compass that shows continual readout of direction of you location.
Remember to turn gps off if your not going to need it.. it sucks a fair amount of juice when its all running. You can turn it off and when you turn it back on if finds everything again.

settings----->
Go into Factory Messaging---> menu--->settings---> uncheck notifications.
Now Handcent will do all the notifying.
The Dolphin Web Browser is my favorite app. This latest update that supports multi-touch got me to try it, but it's much, much more than just multi-touch that makes it an upgrade over the Droid's stock browser.

Any negatives to using it over Droids stock browser?

I like Dolphin browser over the stock browser, but force closed way too much.
I love FF too. Can't wait until official FF browser comes out.
Its a free download... check Dolphin browser out.
I've been playing with it the last 30 min and I'm very impressed so far.
The two finger touch feature is when you take two of your finger.. like your pointer finger and thumb and put them together and touch the screen... once you touch, spread them apart and you get instant zoom in function.... do just the opposite... spread them apart and touch the screen with both of them and then squeeze then together and you get zoom out.
You can still scroll right and left with one finger too.
With the powerful resolution of the Droid you can really zoom up really quick and then back out.
It doesn't work on pages where you are already seeing the full page.. only on pages that have a larger resolution than the Droid carries.
I can't find the Guitarists Reference? Where and what is it?
Sorry: Guitarist's reference. Have to spell with ' in the market search. Has a lite and pro app. This is a guitar app with chords, scales, etc for learning and playing guitar.
I am also trying Robotic Guitarist Free now. Has a tuner and metronome.

Tried the DX2, the Dinc, and the Defy. Still using my D1.
So I downloaded Meetro DC from the Market for my Droid... and it rocks if you are in the District a lot.
It tracks ALL the DC Metro trains. Accurately so far as I can tell too! So today I could tell before I got off my MARC train exactly how fast I had to haul it to the subway without just missing the train
Love it!
Just downloaded it, if it works like you say, it will be a lifesaver.
i wonder if imeem will run on hero? i tried to search "imeem"in the market but no go. anyway, my faves so far are iMusic, mixzing, qik, picsay, Gmote, and Astro.
my fave games are robo defense, baseball, and armored strike lite. =)
I have a little app called "bluetooth file server" but havan't used it yet.... maybe I'm not sure how to use it... I'm not crazy about the interface.
Looks like yours may work better for the Droid.
At least it has a Help section that makes sense, and works off 3g for same network, and wi-fi to other networks..... thats more than I can say for the Bluetooth file server.

Home - PandaHome (best free app)
Browser - Dolphin Browser (pinch zoom)
AnyCut - direct dial or txt favorite contacts
Dock Runner - Don't have to buy the $30 dock
Guitarists Reference
Live Football Scores
PicSay and Qik - Great for editing and posting pics and vids
Shazam - Find any song when your phone listens with you
Skyscape - medical reference of choice until Epocrates goes android
Ultimate Faves - buggy right now but I love the Carousel idea
UltimateFaves works rock-solid, with excellent feedback from hunderds of users. Make sure you have the latest version - v2.1.1. (Or v1.1.1 for UltimateFavesPRO).
If you have any issues, you're welcome to e-mail me.

I'm pretty sure you can use imeem on a Hero. I wouldn't see why you wouldn't be able to. When you search the market it'll come up under imeem mobile. You can also enter imeem, inc (the developer).

I haven't bought any apps yet, should the guitarist's reference be my first ya think?
I still worry about saftey putting CC #'s into the phone to buy apps, wish there was another way.

WHat exactly does this do, does it override the stock or do I get to choose to use it?
has anyone noticed that pda net is available for android? It allows you to use your data plan to access the internet on your desktop or laptop via usb or bluetooth.
