I had this problem also. Beyond just turning off the notifications, I made the Handcent my default. To do this, go to "People," and select someone to text. It will then ask you which of the two applications to use and you can set Handcent as the default.

Maybe you already knew that part, but it took me forever to figure that out since I was trying to make it the default through Handcent itself.

Sorry to get off topic.

Does anyone know whether we'll be getting a Yelp or Urban Spoon anytime soon? Where is horrible.

When I open the Market, I see "Featured" apps on top and then 4 other options: Applications, Games, Search, and My Downloads.

UltimateFaves Pro is probably my favorite app so far. Helps saves tons of room on my screens for widgets. Yes...I admit it...I'm addicted to widgets

Buffman and GearJamminHank, did you find a good arm band or anything to use with the cliq while running using My Tracks OR Cardio Trainer? I'm looking on amazon and google, but if you have a recommendation, I'd appreciate it!

Also, can you listen to music while tracking the run?

thanks!

The second best would have to be Bonsai Blast, which is a more complicated and challenging game than I expected.

How do I get Locale on my Hero. I don't see it in the market.

Yep, a nice feature while driving!.... once you learn how not to slur and speak clearly.... must be my accent.

Default dPod RSS

My new favorite app is dPod! dPod is a podcast client. Similar to Google's Listen, dPod can download both audio and video! Best of all, this app is completely free!

The biggest downside is that there doesn't seem to be a search option. But, to make up for it, the app syncs with your Google Reader account. Which makes everything really easy!

Right now, I have G4's Attack of the Show, Gadget Pr0n, The Feed, and a couple XPlay podcasts. Plus some of CNET's podcasts. The app is clean and works well.

Ultimate faves is my favorite so far. I have only had my HT-03A for a few days so that may change. Do people use it with aHome or any of the home page mods?

Hi, is there any Calendar application that I can call from directly?
Exemple: note in calendar: call N.N number: 123456789
Is there application that allows me to click on number and call it?

Default Great thread!

This thread has been well worth my time to read so that I could get some great apps based on your recommendations. I am absolutely loving the Dolphin browser. I glance through our local newspaper website daily for my kid's sports team write-ups and the old browser was making me crazy trying to use the zoom while navigating. The pinch zoom now is fabulous! Thanks!

Editing to include aldiko! I hate having downtime while waiting on children, doctor's appointments, etc. Now I can just whip out a book and read. Love it!

I like the idea but I'm not paying for something that has a free app that represents it so poorly. How do I know if the free version is a teaser or that is the quality of the paid app as well?

This works alright. Not perfect but very promising. It will also read a text to you. If you long press on a message it will give a "Speak Text" option that will read it to you while you drive.

I just use the armband that I used to use with my iPod with my Hero. Not sure if there's a huge difference in size between the Hero and the Cliq. Yes, you can listen to a playlist through Cardio Trainer while it is tracking the run. It will even give you updates on your progress while the music is still playing.

As a man that spends more time reading about politics and viewing blogs, I really enjoy Flyscreen quite a bit. It never freezes on me, and I can put some of my favorite news sites right on the front for me to read quickly, and I can tag them to read them later on. Very enjoyable app.

My favorite app(s), as of right now, would have to be FeedR News Reader, GDE - The new home experience!, and Home++ Beta.

I know 2 out of my 3 faves are home replacements, but I like both too much to choose just one.

I don't see the UltimateFaves Pro version in the market? Is the upgrade available through the free version?

UltimateFaves Pro can be bought, via PayPal, on the dev's site.

Here is the link. Buy UltimateFaves for Android

I personally like it, but it can be a tad bit slow.

The main/only big difference is that with the free version you can only create 2 carousels, and with the pro version you can create however many you want.

In case anyone is interested, the apps that I use all the time are:

ChompSMS (Text/MMS tool)

Quick Profiles (Like on a BB or Nokia, for changing profiles)

Twidroid (Tried the rest, prefer Twidroid for Twittering)

Astrid (Todo lists that sync with RTM)

Newsrob (RSS reader)

Listen (Podcasts) {Note there are apps out there that do both RSS feeds
and Podcasts - but I find it easier to use two specialist programs)

RoboDefense (although good not as amazing as some people make out)

All the apps I use sometimes but I still recommend

WaveSecure Beta
Soccer Livescores
Guardian Anywhere
BeebPlayer

Hope that helps!

APPALARM ! This app rocks for an alarm clock. I can't say enough about it. Somebody actually listened. This Alarm clock will play Pandora and Slacker. It has adjustable snooze and many features. .99 is cheap for a killer app that does what it is supposed to and the developer actually has been doing updates when people ask for them. He listens. It even has a backup alarm (need to set alarm sound file if you use this) should you not have a internet connection. This alarm can even toggle the wifi on if you use wifi and don't have 3g. You can set it up to text somebody or call them. Multiple alarms. You can even set the alarm volume.

Yes this sounds like a running advertisement, but I just discovered this thing and I'm totally jazzed because I've been looking so long and when I found it, it really works!!! I tested it on my wife's Eris and it worked fine too.

Apps I can't do without:

Astrid ToDo list
Twidroid twitter client

And of course (but I wrote it, so I might be a bit biased )
The Gasoline Brothers Player
Which features 3 free albums from a great dutch indie band. Awesome music for the best price available. Did I mention it's free?

I'm changing my vote to xScope. It is still a worl in progress, but it is fast, attractive, and the developer is super responsive.

Don't sweat it, i tried the droid last month and the htc is way more impressive. i might miss the nav a little, but the map works just as well and we'll get the os update eventually. the eris is much more stable, the sense ui is sweet, and the overall build of the hardware is miles ahead of the motorola.... plus it's sexy baby!

Hi there!
Question on this....I would love to be able to use this Aldiko and read my books on my phone however, I am having trouble understanding how to do this. Do I have to buy books that are in the epub formats? Can I get free books from the library and put them on my phone?

Sorry, very new to this.....

Thanks in advance for help

So far, favs are:
-ES File Explorer
-chompSMS
-Unit Converter - Convert Pad
-DockRunner
-Documents to Go (paid)
-Keeper (paid)

QUESTION: Does anyone know an SMS app that will allow me to SCHEDULE sending messages -- like write it at 3AM but it doesn't go out until 8AM?

OK, It was Shazam, until I installed the Swype keyboard beta this weekend. now it's Swype, by a long shot.

It's not in the Market, yet. It's a private beta that's been leaked.

Locale is awesome. I am a firefighter and I set it so that when I leave the station on a call it won't ring but as soon as I get back to the station the ringer turns back on. Also when I am home my freind across the street has a theatre room and as soon as I near his property my phone goes to a low volume ring and vibrates so that noone is disturbed.

Would it be illegal on the forum to post a link to where I found the Swype leaked beta trial?
