I had this problem also. Beyond just turning off the notifications, I made the Handcent my default. To do this, go to "People," and select someone to text. It will then ask you which of the two applications to use and you can set Handcent as the default.
Maybe you already knew that part, but it took me forever to figure that out since I was trying to make it the default through Handcent itself.
Sorry to get off topic.
Love
-OI Shopping list,
-Smart Unit Converter (for cooking)
-Shazam
-Dolphin Browser
Does anyone know whether we'll be getting a Yelp or Urban Spoon anytime soon? Where is horrible.
Maybe this is not politically correct, but I wanted to suggest my own application. I'm sure you'll find it unique and useful on your phone. Works perfectly all the way from G1 to Moto-Droid:
UltimateFaves lets you organize your most frequently used items (such as contacts, phone numbers, bookmarks, applications, etc) in beautiful 3D carousels for quick and comfortable access along with a unique and highly customizable user-interface.
* Create home-screen shortcuts to specific carousels
* Clear the clutter on your desktop!
* Beautiful 3D OpenGL animations
LOVE this! Please tell me how to get it. I just got my eris and launched the Market and don't see any way to search other than scrolling through hundreds of apps and hoping to find it. Please tell me there's a better way!

When I open the Market, I see "Featured" apps on top and then 4 other options: Applications, Games, Search, and My Downloads.

Buffman and GearJamminHank, did you find a good arm band or anything to use with the cliq while running using My Tracks OR Cardio Trainer? I'm looking on amazon and google, but if you have a recommendation, I'd appreciate it!
Also, can you listen to music while tracking the run?
I would have to say that locale is my favorite app so far. I had some trouble with it being inconsistent last week, but now it seems to be running smoothly. I'm saving battery power by having it turn off my WiFi settings while I'm at work, during work hours.
The second best would have to be Bonsai Blast, which is a more complicated and challenging game than I expected.
How do I get Locale on my Hero. I don't see it in the market.
My new favorite app is dPod! dPod is a podcast client. Similar to Google's Listen, dPod can download both audio and video! Best of all, this app is completely free!
The biggest downside is that there doesn't seem to be a search option. But, to make up for it, the app syncs with your Google Reader account. Which makes everything really easy!
Right now, I have G4's Attack of the Show, Gadget Pr0n, The Feed, and a couple XPlay podcasts. Plus some of CNET's podcasts. The app is clean and works well.
Does anyone know of a better program than "snapit" to capture text and utilize it for saving to documents or sending etc?
1) Google Goggles - all around awesome app, scan business cards and add to contacts, barcodes and get prices, paintings and get info on the painter/name etc....
2) Evernote - Nice, but I don't like how they force you to store everything in their format and make it kinda un-exportable.

Ultimate faves is my favorite so far. I have only had my HT-03A for a few days so that may change. Do people use it with aHome or any of the home page mods?
Hi, is there any Calendar application that I can call from directly?
Exemple: note in calendar: call N.N number: 123456789
Is there application that allows me to click on number and call it?
This thread has been well worth my time to read so that I could get some great apps based on your recommendations. I am absolutely loving the Dolphin browser. I glance through our local newspaper website daily for my kid's sports team write-ups and the old browser was making me crazy trying to use the zoom while navigating. The pinch zoom now is fabulous! Thanks!
Editing to include aldiko! I hate having downtime while waiting on children, doctor's appointments, etc. Now I can just whip out a book and read. Love it!

Just Uninstalled for the second time. The free version doesn't allow you to see more than 4 of you contacts, add another carousel, or access other options. I like the idea but I'm not paying for something that has a free app that represents it so poorly. How do I know if the free version is a teaser or that is the quality of the paid app as well?

Others may already know this but I jsut discovered how to speak my text message and the phone types it for me!
I use Handcent. Open the contact>press MENU key>press SPEAK.
This works alright. Not perfect but very promising. It will also read a text to you. If you long press on a message it will give a "Speak Text" option that will read it to you while you drive.

I just use the armband that I used to use with my iPod with my Hero. Not sure if there's a huge difference in size between the Hero and the Cliq. Yes, you can listen to a playlist through Cardio Trainer while it is tracking the run. It will even give you updates on your progress while the music is still playing.
As a man that spends more time reading about politics and viewing blogs, I really enjoy Flyscreen quite a bit. It never freezes on me, and I can put some of my favorite news sites right on the front for me to read quickly, and I can tag them to read them later on. Very enjoyable app.

I don't see the UltimateFaves Pro version in the market? Is the upgrade available through the free version?

JW...thanks for the link. What are the big differences between free and paid?
The main/only big difference is that with the free version you can only create 2 carousels, and with the pro version you can create however many you want.
APPALARM ! This app rocks for an alarm clock. I can't say enough about it. Somebody actually listened. This Alarm clock will play Pandora and Slacker. It has adjustable snooze and many features. .99 is cheap for a killer app that does what it is supposed to and the developer actually has been doing updates when people ask for them. He listens. It even has a backup alarm (need to set alarm sound file if you use this) should you not have a internet connection. This alarm can even toggle the wifi on if you use wifi and don't have 3g. You can set it up to text somebody or call them. Multiple alarms. You can even set the alarm volume.
Yes this sounds like a running advertisement, but I just discovered this thing and I'm totally jazzed because I've been looking so long and when I found it, it really works!!! I tested it on my wife's Eris and it worked fine too.

Meh, the built in alarm clock has woke my ass up every weekday without fail, no need form me to download another app that takes up storage on my phone :-P
I really like chompSMS for texting, better then the default messagin on the Eris IMO. For games, i love jewellust and jewels, basically anything bejewed:P as well as Robo defense, and Buka lite. And to impress other people i usually show them the sky map and metal detector.
And of course (but I wrote it, so I might be a bit biased )
The Gasoline Brothers Player
Which features 3 free albums from a great dutch indie band. Awesome music for the best price available. Did I mention it's free?
Don't sweat it, i tried the droid last month and the htc is way more impressive. i might miss the nav a little, but the map works just as well and we'll get the os update eventually. the eris is much more stable, the sense ui is sweet, and the overall build of the hardware is miles ahead of the motorola.... plus it's sexy baby!
Aldiko is great for me , it sucks that i've never seen anyone mentioning it. it allows you to read ebooks in epub format from your sd card. So with torrents and pdf to epub converters easily available , i never need to go to the library again!
Hi there!
Question on this....I would love to be able to use this Aldiko and read my books on my phone however, I am having trouble understanding how to do this. Do I have to buy books that are in the epub formats? Can I get free books from the library and put them on my phone?
THANKS FOR THIS GREAT THREAD! I'm on the Moto Milestone losing sleep installing apps.
So far, favs are:
-ES File Explorer
-chompSMS
-Unit Converter - Convert Pad
-DockRunner
-Documents to Go (paid)
-Keeper (paid)
QUESTION: Does anyone know an SMS app that will allow me to SCHEDULE sending messages -- like write it at 3AM but it doesn't go out until 8AM?
Locale is awesome. I am a firefighter and I set it so that when I leave the station on a call it won't ring but as soon as I get back to the station the ringer turns back on. Also when I am home my freind across the street has a theatre room and as soon as I near his property my phone goes to a low volume ring and vibrates so that noone is disturbed.
