Etherial Dialpad - easily the most simple yet enthralling fun I've had in a while, possibly ever.

My favourite apps:

k-9 email (the only Android email client with imap idle push email, afaik)
k-9 data killer (widget to turn push email on/off)
Email Popup (for K-9 email): pops up a small box every time a new email is received
SMS Popup (as above, for text messages)
pure calendar widget
remember the milk (to do list; Astrid is a free alternative, and connects to the RTM servers, too)
Websms (with fishtext connector): sends cheap sms with fishtext
ContactsGroupU: shows contacts by group
a online radio
ColorNote
Fring (skype, messenger etc)
Quicksettings
EboBirthday
battery indicator (Darshan computing)
Profiles (egg 'n stone)
KeePassDroid (keepass password manager)
Multilang dictionary
Google translate
yxflash (to watch divx videos)
Startup auditor (checks which apps start at boot up)
android mate (organizes apps by category)
any cut: customizable shortcuts
B&B droidlight: turns your droid into a flashlight
Dailystrip: daily comic strip

Switcher Widget is cool.
Screebl is amazing.
Apps Organizer is something I will not live without.
Pure Calendar Widget is a must have if you have a daily schedule to follow

The rest of my must haves seemed to be already mentioned several times.

Anyone know of an app like CoolIris? I really miss it (had an iPod touch before).

Thank you so much for pointing this out. Ethereal indeed. Most elegant. Entrancing. A perfect app for the second decade of the new millenium. I especially like the swarm.

It's been mentioned in passing, but I think it deserved a better post.

xScope GT (an alternative web browser) finally makes me feel like my browsing experience isn't worse than all my friends with iPhones.

It's come a long way recently. Reviews I read from not too long ago talk about its poor usability, but the author seems to be developing it fairly actively and I found it really excellent. It's the first paid app I've bought (and I was an early G1 buyer, so I've held out a long time until now).

The pin-zoom is so much better than pinch-zoom, and a few other features are much snappier than the other browsers I've used.

Wow this thread has caused me to download a ton of new apps! Thanks everyone!

My favorites are:
Amazon and Ebay (the fact that I can link right to my paypal is awesome! I shop in bed now)
Howcast (has some awesome movies on DYI projects)
There are a bunch of free games I love including Bonsai Blast, Mancala, Drag Toilet Paper, Paper Toss, Slimeball, Simon Says, Memory, etc
B-Folders
Money Manager
Around Me (great app to find local anything)

My only question...I don't know if any of you have downloaded Photoshop Mobile...but I downloaded it and it's not letting me upload pics from my phone? It says there are none...does anyone else have this problem with this program?

I believe this is because the Incredible stores pictures on the internal memory which Photoshop mobile cannot see. What I did is change my camera app to save pictures to my SD card and then Photoshop has no problem.

Hope this helps!

ShapeWriter - Like Swype but free
Dolphin Browser - Fastest Browser
SkyFire Browser - Can watch Flash videos
Trapster - Uses Google maps to show where speed traps are on roads
GTalk - Who doesn't use gtalk now-a-days?
aCar - Keep track of all your car services, especially gas fill ups and see how much you spend and how far you get between each service
Evernote - Have an idea, or see something you don't want to forget to research? Up to 40MB free, syncs up with an online server so you can access it from anywhere
Unit Converter - Self explanatory
Alarm Clock - Self Explanatory
Light Racer - Just like in Tron
Google Sky Map - Know what constellations you are looking at
Nesoid - NES Emulator, and just download all ROMS free from torrents
FartDroid - Farts are always funny!
PdaNet - Turn your phone into a BluTooth/USB hotspot!!!!
Save MMS - Save pics from MMSs
Shazam - Hear a song and don't know who sings it and you want to buy it? Just hit "Tag Now" and it will figure out what the song is (providing the music is loud enough - works with most songs. It didn't know a few indie bands)
Trap! - A game where you trap little bouncing balls. Block off 75% of screen to advance
Apollo task Killer (Advanced Task Killer?) - Kill all background running apps, set up ignore list to ignore apps you do want running in background

5>imusic
Think of a song...type it in the search bar and...poof I am listening and/or downloading it in seconds

4>Google Maps
Superior navigation app...nuff said

3>Caller Id Faker
Best Prank App EVER!!! Imagine calling your significant other's phone from their ex's phone number and...(u know what u can do with that)...This app allows you to input any number and fake it so that the recipient's caller id will reflect that number. Did i mention this app has an option to disguise your voice as a man or woman?

2>Apps2sd
Allows you to store apps to your sdcard instead your tiny lil' phone memory...I have over 200 apps installed on my g1 and room for 100's more...Did I mention this app speeds up your phone?

1>Wireless Router for Root Users
Browse the internet from your pc, laptop, ipod, nintendo dsi, or any other device, all at the same time from your freaking PHONE! This app turns your phone into a wireless router at no extra charge

Was this really necessary?

Couldn't fit them all into one post?

BTW, it's Wifi tether.. not wireless router.

I currently use Handcent SMS for messaging but I see that lots of you like Chomp SMS. Does anyone happen to know the main differences between these?

I just remember trying Chomp first...for about a week. Liked it.

But then heard of handcent, tried it... and never went back.

I dont think one is that much better than the other

Go to the market on your phone, and search for them. It will give you a description for each one. Also you could go to www.AndroLib.com and do it from your desktop.

Hmmm... finally started buying up apps instead of just looking at the free ones and I have to say, I've been playing with BetterCut for 3-4 days, almost non-stop. I CAN'T STOP CUSTOMIZING!!!! And the worst is, I feel that this is a gateway app. Next it'll be LauncherPro Beta (seriously. I'm downloading it now) and then...... root.

::sigh::

Before you know it, I'll be selling my metal fillings for some extra Market cash.

And I have to give a shout to Math Alarm Clock, which wakes me up for work after I stay up way too late making themes : )

I've only had my Hero (just upgraded to Android 2.1) for less than a month.I'm too new to Android to have a favorite app yet. However I will agree that do like The Weather Channel and shop savvy though.

True, but I agree that if people are recommending an app, they could take ten seconds to briefly outline what it does, as quite often the name doesn't help.

+1

That's the point of this thread.
Not just to name apps... but tell everyone why you like them.

After a few weeks of having the Inc...

ShapeWriter - I admit it, I'm now a trace keyboard fanboy, and SW's algorithm for prediction is nearly flawless. A co-worker refused to believe it worked, so he tried a few words and almost got mad at how well it picked up what he meant.

HomePipe/Transdroid - I'm putting these together since they do basically the same thing: work with data on my home PC. The ability to download torrents to my home PC and move documents around is fantastic.

AppBrain - I don't know what I'd do without this. I -never- look stuff up on my phone unless I'm away from my laptop.

eBuddy - Sure, it isn't as full featured as Meebo and when the signal is weak it's perpetually awake in order to stay connected, but it's attractive, works fine, and when the signal's strong is a LOT easier on my battery.

Touiteur - Gorgeous Twitter app, great widget, colorized feed. Nuff said.

SNESoid - "Hey Zach, what are you doing?" "Playin' Chrono Trigger on my phone, mofo!!!"

RadioTime - I adore this app. The ability to listen to talk radio from anywhere in the country is invaluable. I use Pandora for music, RadioTime for comedy/news/whatever.

PicSay Pro - This thing is just fun. I add speech bubbles and goofy effects to ALL my pictures now.

i tried it last nite and i could not get any word correct. plus i could literally not see the letter highlighted with my fingers always in the way.

guess i prefer stock keyboard/ wish keys were a lil bigger

Swype- the way typing on a touchscreen should be imo

Layar- helps me find places easily

Google Voice- as somebody who hates listening to/sifting through voicemail, this is what I neeeeded

Beautiful Widgets- makes my phone beautiful

Bettercut- so I can change around icons easily

ShootMe- never know when you need to take screenshots to post online

Google Sky Map- educational when I am smoking a cig outside at night and somewhat bored

Those are just my favs.

I think they only really work if you're pretty well-acquainted with the keyboard. I don't need anything highlighted, I go too quickly.

Thumbs up Multiremote!

It controls like, everything.

Windows media center, winamp, VLC, can even be used for a game controller if you wanted to.

It's free, the server is free, and it WORKS, unlike 5 other apps I have used.

The only thing it does not do that I would like is presenting you with a list of multimedia options such as music, to be played through your computer, but the list shown on your phone. Such as if you were in another room, or you had your monitor/television turned off.

Gmote does this, but.......gmote does not support playlists.

This thing rules. The trackball is used like the arrow keys, so every function of windows media center I can get to.

Check it out!
