There are a few, the most popular is Locale. Is this what you're looking for? It switches based on time and location using GPS. Locale for Android

I haven't looked up AnyCut yet, but on the replies on one of the pages for Bettercut, someone says this is not needed because 2.X Android allows you to make shortcuts for anything. Comments?

Also says it is not compatible with Froyo.

My best app? being an avid sailor , definitively "Marine: Mediterranean" by Navionics. but they have many apps with maps that cover with amazing details all the word. I love the wind prediction they have recently included.
try it and let me know

A big thing for me is the ability to change icons. I have a page of my homescreen dedicated to internet bookmarks. It is nice to see the ESPN logo or the TiVo logo rather than the stock bookmark icon.

That is the only thing I am using it for...to change shortcut icons.

Is there another app that does that, without everything else in Bettercut?

Timeriffic ~ one of my fav's!

Current setup are as follows;

Mon - Fri:

*** 7:00am WiFi OFF.
*** 7:05am Aeroplane mode ON.
*** 7:07am Aeroplane mode OFF.
*** 6:00pm WiFi ON

rinse & repeat Monday to Friday.

One thing it lacks is options imo such as Speaker phone, ringtone, auto-sync etc, Setting Profile does the the last few but isn't very reliable imo.

i got a couple rom packs from the market. when you have them downloaded to your SD card, make a folder shortcut somewhere on your home screens to the folder where you put them. jist tap on the zip of the game rom, and choose to open it with snesoid. it was a PIA the 1st time to get it to figure it out. but it's really fun to play the old stuff.

i have heard that there is. don't know the name, icon switcher or something. the natural evolution for most people seems to be to eventually try a new launcher. adw, and launcher pro give options for that, so i never use bettercut anymore. but don't want to delete it, weird...

I'd like to try Power Manager, as lots of people say good things about it.

I just searched "power Manager" on the Market, but there are TWO versions.

One is a single word "PowerManager" by Kappen.

The other is two words "Power Manager" by x-phone software.

This 2nd one has a Lite and a Full version.

Which of these is the one that everyone praises so highly?

Thanks!

Sorry to say, but if GPS is the whole purpose of your android, you're getting ripped off. A GPS unit costs $300 (one-time) vs. your android having a (minimum) $90/month cellular service fee.

Is there an app like Iheartradio actual that has a widget? For those who don't know Iheartradio, just lets you stream actual radio stations that you would listen to when you're in your car.

I've been looking for one similar to locale because I can't see myself paying $10 for this app. I heard of one that was named something like "spot on" or something like that but haven't been able to find it or another app similar to it. Any help would be appreciated.

Setting Profiles ($3.95 USD) is the one for me. LOVE it. Does it snag your location perfectly? Not always, and it can be slow to let you out of that location, but it generally works very well. Lots of config options. I've got rules based on time of day, day of week, location, etc. Very powerful. Profiles can be configured to do most anything you want with the phone and rules/profiles can be stacked on top of each other. Every night, I've got my charging, home and nighttime profiles running and the combination gives me the perfect mix of settings.

I even have this thing set to SMS my wife an "almost home" message when I get to a point that's about 15 minutes from my house while on my way home from work.

Pretty active user community with responsive developers. Me likey.

Any idea if you can forward your phone based on a profile? I could do that with Phone Alarm on my WinMo device. Really nice.

You mention an active user community. Is their forum? I didn't see anyu links to a community on their site.

Definitely try out Tasker:
Tasker for Android

It's the most customisable, actively developed app for this kind of thing I've come across. Changing profiles is just the beginning, it can update almost any setting based on any number of contexts.

I tried the others and they fell well short of this. Not a bad price either.

Man this is awesome, i work graveyard, and i get no signal where i work(casino surveillance) i had an app to auto turn on airplane mode, but it did it on my days off as well which sucked. This will be awesome to help save battery and also turn my ringers off before i goto bed because i hate waking up cus i forgot to change my ringer off.

Tasker ROCKS. Thanks! One of the major advantages of this over Setting Profiles is for Wifi detection. Setting Profiles only allows you to specify a location based on a Wifi AP to which you can connect, and only by SSID. If you have a location with a "linksys" AP, you're pretty much going to be "there" a lot of the time as you pass through areas with default Linksys APs.
Tasker improves on this by allowing you to specify MAC address of the AP, so no worries about people naming their networks the same. Also, you don't actually have to CONNECT to the AP; it just needs to be in range. Pretty sweet for my workplace, where I'm not allowed to connect my phone to the wireless network.

Thanks for the tip!

I've been all over WidgetLocker and Launcher Pro the past week or so. Both are paid apps and worth the money.

If you have Fios, the Verizon FiOS DVR Manager and FiOS mobile remote are must haves!

Like most everyone else, Astro, andFTP, Mixzing, SwitchPro, More Icons, and Weatherbug Elite.

I have few others but I use these the most.

Edit: Add XM/Sirius to the list.

Power Strip is probably my most used and favorite app Power Strip: Multitasking Dock v1.1.8 asuka Application for Android | Productivity

Have a tab for all your apps

Have a shortcuts tab for easy access to most used apps

Have a dock where you can place your favorite/most used widgets

Had my Desire a couple of weeks now and the most used for me are:

* ebay app (obviously only if buying/selling!)
* advanced app killer (free up your memory!)
* jorte (when used with Google Calendar it nicely handles my shifts)
* juicedefender (save battery)
* appbrain (handle apps with ease, though result "ordering by" options would be useful)
* speedtest.net
* movies (Flixster)
* silent toggle widget (essential timesaver)

Ones like talkpal are clever, but not favourites so far...

quick settings. change screen brightness, ringer volume, see battery life, turn on/off gps-wifi-bluetooth, and more all from one screen.

simple and useful

Ummmm. I'm not sure of the logic with this one...Android is many things, including a phone, you know, for making calls, that thing. I challenge anyone to find a smartphone with a data plan for less than $90 month on most services....even the ones without free GPS! soooo, $300 bucks for a stand alone GPS that requires $80 per year software updates to stay current (yes, it's true), doesn't add up to cheaper to me!

The only correct answer is Launcher Pro.

I've found several from here. Too many Can't get them all installed, or decide which I like best.

I couldn't live without WordWise Pro, Handmark Express news, IMDb the official app, and facebook. I guess the app I use most often would be Wordwise Pro though and Skyfire browser with shapewriter keyboard and of course my Kindle app so I can have my Kindle books with me where ever I go.

I am a newbie, and it's nice that you described the app as well as just the name. Gonna start downloading new apps now!
