the in app notifications still link to the website, which actually, really sucks. Other than that, not a lot of changes except for the home screen/launch screen.
inching closer to how well the iPhone app is done, but we are still a ways off.
Yep, still relies heavily on the browser for notifications. If you go into settings, they only give you options to be notified for friend requests and messages. Why aren't wall posts and comments part of the notifications?

And why did they take away "pokes"?!?! I wish the iPhone version of this app would just be carried over to the Android platform.
I'm concerned about the fact that it's always running. I noticed it specifically and came here to see if you guys were discussing it (and you were).
Something to keep an eye on the next few days. Definitely showing up as the top "partial wake" application right now but I haven't noticed additional battery drain.
I've noticed a fair few god improvements. The messages correctly display all messages now. Also the Events section is a lot more functional. Also could we even see friend requests before? I didn't think we could before the update? I also think there is a slight improvement on photo loading times.
Obviously notifications still needs to be updated to stay in app. But at least it's obvious they are still working on it, albeit a bit slow...
This version stays running in the background. Wonder if that will effect battery life much?

Well, it's definitely eating up my battery. I noticed a big difference overnight. I emailed the developer (I don't know if it will help).
This is a major issue that definitely needs fixed. Everyone should contact them about this problem.
It is still a garbage app compared to the Blackberry version. I am still horribly letdown by this app. All they did was change the frontpage really. I hate having to access teh web to look at stuff, i hate needing to get an email, then go to the website to see replies. BB does it 100x better. As soon as someone posts/comments/whatever, i get an alert, like RIGHT THEN AND THERE, and i click that and go right to the post, no web involved, no need to fill my box with emails. So much better and easier. And i acutally GOT alerts. This thing NEVER gives me alerts.
They really need a better facebook client. Cause i am horribly let down by this one

It really ate my battery up fast kept my phone awake for 6.5 hours and nearly killed the battery from full charge. I too sent an email to the developer.
Mine was "awake" after installation with notifications enabled or disabled and did notice the battery dropping fast. After logging out of the app, then back in it's no longer doing it.
Not using the contacts sync feature either, doesn't seem to work as well as HTC's.

About damn time they updated it, its definitely better than before, but still far from perfect. Hopefully the next update will allow us to view posts posted by facebook applications on profile walls

My phone was staying awake after the update, but after a reboot (and I also turned off updating and notifications) and it's not now.
Any notice the new contact sync options? It lets you sync only contacts they are already in your phone.
Any idea how that works? It tries to match up emails/phone numbers with your contact list and if there's a match, it pulls in their facebook info/photos?
It's definitely NOT eating up battery. If your battery is hurting, it is caused by something else. Seriously guys, how can you make up stuff like that? Any decent task killer program(one that tells you what apps are actually doing) will show you that this one is completely idle in the background and uses no resources.

Yes it is.. When it is running in background it checks for facebook notification at a regular interval and that eats battery.
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet (unless it's too early and I missed it), but the update also fixed the facebook contact synchronization bug that some have been experiencing.

yes it is. when i check partial awake usage in spare parts, facebook is at the top and the blue line goes all the way across the screen. don't tell me it's not using battery. "Running" should not be at 100%. I'm going to try a reboot and see if that fixes the problem, as someone suggested.
As far as the contacts go, do you disable the HTC Sense Facebook sync first? Will one take priority over the other or duplicate everything? I'm afraid to try it. Haha.
EDIT: A reboot does not work. It only works until you open Facebook again, then it will continue running until you force close it in "Running Services" (or if you're a user of a task killer).

Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never run with both on my phone at once, but the lack of facebook contact syncing without friendstream was one of the things preventing me from using CyanogenMod 6 on my Incredible. I'm very pleased. A little concerned about the battery issue though...

Ok, it's easily confirmed that there's a problem with this app, at least for me on my Droid X.
Refresh and Notifications are both turned off in Facebook.
Reboot phone. Let sit idle for a few minutes, just "Running" in Spare Parts. You'll see phone has been sleeping normally.
Run Facebook.
Let phone sit idle for a few minutes. Run Spare Parts and look at "running" again and you'll see it hasn't stopped running since you started facebook.
Force Close Facebook with your favorite task manager. Let phone sit idle for a few minutes again. Check Spare Parts and you'll see the phone has now started sleeping normally again.
Checked it out on my neighbors phone. Going to just stay with the Dinc stock Facebook for now. Maybe with Froyo it will get better. Hopefully by Gingerbread it surpasses the iPhone FB App.
Also, logging out does allow the phone to sleep again, but of course, that's a big pain.
Instead of logging out completely, I would suggest putting a shortcut to your "Running Services" on one of your screens and stop it from there. Logging out will solve the growing data problem that occurs over time with FB though.
Last time FB was updated, I believe there was another quick bug updated soon after. I hope they do it this time too.
edit: I hope everyone goes to that Facebook page and clicks on "contact developer" on the left side and reports the problem.

Hope so too! The postings over on that facebook page I listed are building up fast. They should get the idea there's a big problem with this app quickly.
I'll just have to remember to stop the app manually for now, but this is killing batteries of people who have no idea what's going on either. Everyone has the fb app on their android phone.

I can also confirm what several others have posted here. Facebook was running in the partial wake listing on my phone AND draining the battery quite a bit actually.
Also, I had synced the contacts, there is no way to undo this unless you delete the app.
Needles to say, I've removed the app from my phone and for the time being just left a bookmark on my mainscreen. Hopefully this fix and drastically improve the facebook app.
why the crap am i still forced to bring ALL my facebook contacts with phone numbers into my phone. I cant for the life of me, have a Contact list then just port pics and updates to the few names on the list. it wants to bring em all over. Also it stays running for me as well. No sleep.

I synced my current contacts with facebook and it constantly syncs and links the same facebook contacts to each of my phone contacts. So now on my contact list, each contact has 5 (FIVE!) of the same linked facebook contact...
I am using a Samsung Captivate, is anyone else seeing this problem?
