I have read on this forum that people find task managers make their phone slower and that there is a general concensious not to use them - can someone please explain this?

Is there anyway I can choose what services are on the startup of the phone? there are a lot of services, most i dont know what they do, but some such as google talk, i will never ever use and want it completeley removed. trying to remove the application from the applications menu does not work.

Get Autostarts! It is root-required, but it will not only change startup permissions! It can change the permission for ANY trigger that starts an app! For example, under the "SMS received" trigger, I can choose to disable Messages and Handcent SMS. It has an enormous amount of options.
