Ok hopefully the title of the thread explains it pretty well, I have set my language to English (UK) in settings>Language&Keyboard but it still shows up as $, I can't find a £ symbol. Changing to English (Ireland) does NOT change to Euro symbol... No English (US) or similar to try and I'm not gonna change to chinese....
Ok I already posted about this in July, many thanks to kingvortex and others who assisted, I am now running 2.2 updated from 3uk (Hutchinson Telecom / Hutchinson 3G). I still have a $ on the 'F' key (long press) and on the second page (12#) I also still have $ and no £ in sight.
If I absolutely need to I will install whatever BUT all UK network providers should update properly, I don't want this to turn into a thread slating providers, but it is not a good situation for android for users to NEED to install additional/alternative apps to use a phone for such a fundamental phone function. If I buy a £10 phone from tesco I don't need to change the language before I can use it.
Good thing I didn't try to update this thread from my handset...
I only did a post about this very subject last night so i will say it again Apparently if you install a custom keyboard made by the good folks on the xda forums you can get the pound symbol on the keyboard, check this out,
Have you tried holding down the $ key? When I do that I get the £ sign, although it is really irritating that it's not there automatically.
No this doesn't work on mine, the 'f' when held gives a $, and the $ on the numeric page is just for $. This is really quite annoying. I have not done anything with the phone either, i'd understand if i'd modded it heavily and broke something...

I think this is the same one I was directed to in the previous post I wrote on the subject. I will give it a go, but...
I do not think it unreasonable for Android developers/network providers to set defaults to something we can actually use, there is English United Kingdom in the settings menu. If you were to buy a PC with preinstalled windows and the £ symbol gave you a $ it would be a minor irritation, but you'd just change to English UK!!
I know less savvy users that would not be happy having to plug in to a pc/laptop to download and unzip as it is an unknown source, even though it is probably totally harmless. Also this means changing settings to allow installing from unknown sources etc.
I can unfortunately see Android going the way of desktop linux unless things like this are 'fixed'. By that I mean a system only for enthusiasts/geeks. People will simply not want to do things like this for something so basic. If you buy in the UK off a UK network it should be set up ready for use in the UK, currency and all.
Ok so I underestimated 3, they have replied to my email and "We’re looking into this for you and will get in touch within five working days to discuss it further. "
So will have more on this by this time next week hopefully.
